The financial activities remained stable in 2022. The City of Dumas received $419,124.40 from the American Rescue Plan Act in July 2022.
Three funding applications were submitted to American Rescue Plan Act for the Dumas High School Pump Station, Gravity Sewer Replacement and the Dumas Wastewater Treatment Plant Sludge Removal. The Arkansas Natural Resources Commission selected the sludge removal application to receive funding up to $384,930.00. The other two applications were not selected to receive funding. The Ambulance Department received $9,118.00 grant revenue for a Trauma Grant. The Police Department $53,825.00 grant revenue for a Law Enforcement Stipend. Construction revenue was received and disbursed to contractors for the Dumas Winchester Sewer Project in 2022 and will continue in 2023.
The City of Dumas received $33,300.00 from the Deloris E. Peterson Irrevocable Trust for 2022 net income. $1,041,000.00 from the Peterson Funds was used to purchase Certificate of Deposits in December 2022 for The City of Dumas Arkansas Agency Account. Interest income received from Certificates of Deposits has continued to increase at the Merchants and Farmers Bank and Simmons Bank. The City of Dumas will continue the following current projects until all projects are completed.

2022 budget requests from the City of Dumas departments have been submitted, reviewed and approved by the budget committee members. Additional budget requests from the department heads for 2023 were also submitted to the budget committee and approved for 2023.

Family Dollar Store purchased a building permit to expand and upgrade the store which will include Family Dollar and Dollar Tree. Brightspeed purchased a building permit to install Fiber optic in the City of Dumas in 2023. A water rate study required by ACT 605 of 2021 was performed and submitted for the City of Dumas to make sure the city is in compliance considering the major development projects. The law requires certain monthly revenue from water sales in the Water Department.
We are working to achieve our objectives of a clean, safe and friendly City of Dumas. Although we have had a few setbacks, our city will continue to move forward. Residents, businesses and the City of Dumas will continue to work together to accomplish all our goals.
