Innovation Day 2022 once again delivered opportunities to persons from Dumas and Desha.
The program opened at noon with The College of Aspiring Artists and DAT—C, Digital Arts Technology College Network greeting the statewide representatives from the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services. Other colleges and academic institutions including UAM, and Philander Smith participated as well. The event was held Thursday October 13, 2022, at The Legacy Center located at 501 W. Bowles.
Individuals from Dumas were brought into the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services Mobile Unit and were able to work on resumes, job searches and sign up for scholarship and other creative opportunities.
“This annual event continues to bring innovation to Dumas and SEARK. We bring this to Dumas and especially the West end because we know the inequities and the state of poverty in Dumas is extremely high. To see a college emerging with many challenges to get the online and the onsite to the optimal level of operations is no easy task. In this case, we were not able to share this to the city council nor onsite to the school administrators in a personal presentation, but with the social media and placement in the local newspaper, The Dumas Clarion, our work continues to get strength. From the website, here’s one quote.
‘Greetings! As a representative of DWS, I met Dr. Hunt and his staff at Innovation Day in Dumas this past Thursday. Just letting you know that TCAA is doing a great service to the community. Glad I have been made aware of this program.’ These moments matter and add momentum to our efforts,” stated Rev. Hunt at the time of this release.
The day ended with the Legacy Center’s signature ‘HUGS AND HOT DOGS’ and a sendoff to the AR DWS who are committed to heading back for ongoing services in Dumas. More on the new developments with AR DWS and other programs is forthcoming.
