On Jan. 7th at 9:00 p.m. Deputy Wayna Green initiated a traffic stop on a black Chevrolet pick-up, on U.S. Highway 65 in Dumas, that was occupied by three black males from Mississippi. After a probable cause search of the vehicle, 56 year old Jerry Nichols was arrested and charged with possession of Cocaine. (8 grams). Nichols was incarcerated at the Dumas City Jail. David Nichols and Tyrique Rhyterdrick, were both cited and released for possession of Marijuana, combined weight of 61 grams.
On Jan. 11th at 7:30 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office assisted the McGehee Police Department and the Drug Task Force, in executing a search warrant at a home on Plainview Drive, belonging to Tommy Morrison JR. Numerous drugs and firearms were confiscated, and a warrant was issued for Morrison’s arrest.
On Jan. 11th at 11:21 p.m., Deputy Wayna Green responded to a disturbance at 106 Church Street in Tillar. During the investigation, 42 year old Dock Jordan was arrested on an outstanding Absconder warrant, issued by the Office of Probation/Parole. Jordan was incarcerated at the Dumas City Jail.
On 1/13/2023 at 8:30 a.m., Deputy Brandon Posey responded to a vandalism call on the Levee, near Clearwater Paper Company, where a vehicle that had suffered mechanical trouble on the previous night, had been found to have the windows broken out, and numerous tools taken from inside the vehicle.
On 1/13/2023 at 9:00 a.m., the Desha County Sheriff’s Office joined the Dumas Police Department, the Drug Task Force, the McGehee Police Department, and the Drew County Sheriff’s Office, to execute search warrants at #10 Briarwood Circle, and Glen Cove Apartments, # D-5. A large amount of drugs, 2 handguns, and nearly $2000 was seized. 39 year old Darius L. Baker was arrested on multiple felony charges, and booked into the Dumas City Jail.
Our Deputies continued to patrol hundreds of miles during the week, and were proactive in property checks.
