Possession of Firearm By Certain Persons
Dumas Police Department Investigator Alan Hernandez, Officers Finely and Wayna Green were dispatched to Pecan Grove apartments to a call involving Mr. Arico Mosby Saturday, September 18, 2021 at approximately 4:42 PM. The call stated Mr Mosby was waving around a silver and gray pistol.
When Officers arrived on scene, Mr. Mosby was sitting on the steps of the apartment building holding a t-shirt. As the Officers approached, Mr. Mosby threw the shirt behind him. Inv. Hernandez asked him if he had a firearm. Mr. Mosby responded that he did not.
Hernandez asked Mr. Mosby to stand up so he could search him. As Mr. Mosby stood up, Officer Green walked over to where Mr. Mosby had been sitting. During which time both Officer Green and Inv. Hernandez noticed the grip of the alleged firearm sticking out from under the shirt.
It was at that time the arrest was then made. He was transported to Dumas City Jail where he was booked for Public Intoxication and Possession of Firearms by Certain Persons.
Mosby is currently awaiting a First Appearance.
Aggravated Assault
On Friday, September 10, 2021, Mr. Clifton Robinson claimed that Mr. Leo Brown shined a bright light in his face and then pulled a pistol out.
Mr. Robinson also claims that Mr. Brown fired the pistol into the ground. Mr. Robinson stated that he was unsure of the exact time of the incident but said it did happen at night.
Inv. Alan Hernandez advised Mr. Robinson that a report will be on file and advised him on how to obtain an affidavit.
Criminal Mischief - 2nd Degree
Dumas Police Department Investigator Alan Hernandez was dispatched to a location on East Farmer regarding a report of criminal mischief Friday, September 17, 2021 at approximately 2:17 PM.
Upon arrival Inv. Hernandez spoke with Ms. Ida Block who stated that someone ran over her retaining wall. No vehicles were found with any damages in the area.
Ms. Block was advised that a report would be on file.
Financial Identity Fraud
Ms. Velma Canada came to the Dumas Police Department to file an Identity Theft Report Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at approximately 9:27 AM.
Ms. Canada stated that she received an email from a firm, regarding a loan associated with a purchase of a iPhone 112 Pro 128GB (AT&T) gold/fair.
Ms. Canada stated she has not asked for a loan, she stated that she called the company and they advised that someone had gotten a hold of her information. The company advised her to file a police report.
Mr. Canada was advised that a report would be on file.
Possession of SCH I or GT 2GM But Less Than 10GM
Dumas Police CID Eric Armstrong conducted a traffic stop on a silver Chevy Malibu at Main and Choctaw Street for expired tags Monday, September 13, 2021.
After advising the driver, Stacey Freeman, the reason for the stop Armstrong noticed some open containers in the back. After running Freeman's ID through dispatch, they advised that Freeman's Drivers License was suspended.
CID Armstrong went up to Freeman and asked was there anything illegal in the car and she stated that there shouldn't be. The back passenger, Kalar Hunt, advised she had an open beer in the back.
Armstrong asked everyone to step out of the car and Officers Findley joined Armstrong in searching the vehicle. Officer Findley searched a black purse in the passenger floor board and found a baggy with pills in it.
CID Armstrong then asked whose pills they were and what they were? Stacey Freeman advised they were her Ecstasy.
Armstrong advised her that she was under arrest and was transported to the Dumas Jail where she was booked in for Possession of Controlled Substance Schedule I.
Aggravated Assault
Dumas Police Department Sgt Greg Freeman and Investigator Alan Hernandez were dispatched to a location on South Ash regarding a shooting Sunday, September 12, 2021 at approximately 3:52 AM.
Upon arrival, Hernandez spoke with the caller Jonovan Chaney. Chaney stated that he was asleep in the back room, earlier during the night Chaney heard multiple gun shots near his house but did not pay much attention to it.
Chaney stated that he woke up and turned the lights on and that is when he realized that his house was shot up.
In the house, Inv. Hernandez located five bullet fragments on the floor. Four bullet holes on the walls, seven bullet holes on a white refrigerator, five bullet holes on a white Speed Queen washer, and twelve bullet holes on the back window.
Sgt. Freeman and Inv. Hernandez walked to the back of the house and located a total of nine shell casing, two were live 223 rounds, two spent 223 casing and seven spent 40 S&W casings.
Mr. Chaney was advised that a report would be on file.
Public Intoxication, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest – Refusal to Submit to Arrest
Dumas Police Department CID Eric Armstrong and Sgt. Crystal Martin were dispatched to Brookhaven parking lot in reference of an ex husband and ex wife dispute.
Upon arrival, Sgt. Martin made contact with Sara Mcgehee who stated her daughter called crying saying her dad Victor Wargo was not acting normal. She stated her daughter told her they were at Brookhaven parking lot by Shep's so she went to go pick her up. Ms. Mcgehee stated her ex husband started acting aggressive towards her.
Sgt. Martin spoke with Ms. Mcgehee's daughter and she stated her dad was driving erratic down Pickens Road then he would drive slow or stop in the road. She stated he was not acting right.
CID Armstrong spoke with Mr. Wargo and noticed Mr. Wargo's speech was slurred.
Mr. Wargo stated he did not drink recently, but does take prescribed medication. Mr. Wargo presented his medications to CID Armstrong.
Armstrong performed the HGN test on Mr. Wargo and determined he was too impaired to drive. CID Hernandez arrived on scene.
Armstrong and Hernandez advised Mr. Wargo to call someone to pick him and the truck up. Mr. Wargo refused multiple times to call someone stating he was okay.
Officers again advised Mr. Wargo to call someone to pick him and the truck up. Mr. Wargo stated “Is that so?” Mr. Wargo began to yell at his ex wife using profanity and Armstrong advised him not to have another outburst or he would go to jail.
Mr. Wargo again yelled out at the ex wife and CID Armstrong told Mr. Wargo he was under arrest for Disorderly Conduct. Mr. Wargo began resisting by not giving his arms and tried to hand onto Armstrong's truck.
CID Hernandez spark test his taser as a warning to get Mr. Wargo to comply. Mr. Wargo still actively resisted and officers used the reasonable amount of force to execute the arrest. Mr. Wargo was transported to Dumas Jail and charged with Disorderly Conduct, Public Intoxication and Resisting Arrest.
Driver Cited for Possessing Marijuana, Defective Equipment
Dumas Police Chief Keith Finch conducted a traffic stop on a blue 2009 Chevy Malibu, with the left tail light out Friday, September 10, 2021.
Chief Finch made contact with the driver Allysia Brown. As Chief Finch was talking with Brown, he smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Chief Finch asked the driver when was the last time marijuana was smoked in the vehicle, she stated “a while ago”. Finch asked the driver if she had any marijuana in the car and she stated she did and gave me a small clear bag that contained green leafy substance. She stated that was all she had.
Chief Finch advised the driver and all passengers to step out. All occupants complied.
Chief Finch advised the driver that he was searching the car on probable cause.
Sgt. Crystal Martin and Chief Finch located a small 9mm Glock, the gun was ran through ACIC/NCIC, the weapon was clean. A large amount of money was found in the vehicle. After searching the car nothing else was found.
The driver was cited for possession of marijuana and defective equipment.
