Desha County Compassionate Friends held their Annual Walk to Remember all children gone too soon Saturday, July 8, on Dumas Community Center Indoor Track.
Participants were welcomed by Brenda Norman, Event coordinator. In her opening remarks, she mentioned that this was the 22nd year that Desha County Chapter of the Compassionate Friends had joined with the national in a walk to remember all children gone too soon. The first Walk to Remember was held Saturday, July 1, 2000. In addition, a special walk was held September 29, 2001 in honor of those who lost their lives in the 9/11 Attack on America. Over the years, the walks have been held during parades, and on both the Dumas High School track and the Dumas Community Center indoor track. In closing, she acknowledged the faithful returning walkers and first time attendees before thanking everyone for their participation and support. First time attendees were Anna Miller, Saye Pugh, Arnetta Pugh, and Minnie Tanner.
A prayer of encouragement and protection was given by Missionary Ida Block. The walk not only gave individuals an opportunity to honor their loved ones, but to reconnect and form friendships with those walking the same path.
