On 1/22/2024 the following persons were convicted in Desha County Circuit Court.
Toby Rocelle- Revocation for Theft of Property and Burglary- 10 years Arkansas Department of Corrections- Suspended Imposition of Sentence.
Jomeka Nichole Hampton- Revocation for Burglary- 6 months, Arkansas Community Corrects SSP program.
Emily Walker- Possession of Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine)- 3 years Community Correction Center.
Wesley F. Cooley- Possession of Firearms by Certain Persons- 3 years Suspended Imposition of Sentence.
John Anderson Gibson IV- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia/ Revocation- 5 years Community Corrections Center.
On January 28th 2024 at 9:45 a.m. Deputy Kerri Womack and Investigator Alan Hernandez responded to Hwy 1 at Daite Deaden Road regarding a subject acting strangely, carrying a gun. Upon arrival Deputies made contact with 28 year old Charles Swinford, who was acting incoherently. Deputies recovered a firearm and pair of scissors from Swinford’s person. He was placed under arrest for Possession of Firearms by Certain Persons, and transported to the Dumas City Jail, where he is still currently being held.
On February 3rd 2024 at 7:53 p.m. Deputies Geoff Wright and Austin Freeman were patrolling State Highway 1 near Watson, when they observed a red Ford Mustang pulled over on the side of the roadway. As the Deputies stopped to help, they smelled a strong odor of Marijuana emitting from the vehicle. As they spoke with the occupants and asked them to step out of the vehicle, the driver, who was later identified as 18 year old Jermaine Phillips of Little Rock, put the vehicle in gear and sped away. The Deputies gave chase; however, Phillips crashed the vehicle in the ditch a mile away. Phillips fled on foot to a wooden area. Deputies gave chase on foot but was unable to locate Phillips. A search of the vehicle revealed Marijuana, Drug Paraphernalia, a loaded 9mm pistol, and loaded magazines. Phillips was also found to be wanted from Pulaski County on felony warrants. Warrants for Phillips arrest will also be issued from Desha County.
