On 7/13/2023 at 3:30 p.m. Chief Deputy Jonathan Byrd responded to a trespassing complaint on Ford Place Loop Road, just outside of Dumas. Upon arrival Chief Byrd located 42-year-old Ronald Hawkins of Gould, sitting on the front porch of the victim’s camp, where he was found to be charging his cell phone and drinking beer. It was also discovered that Hawkins was attempting to sell a grill on social media, that belonged to the victim. The grill was later found in an area where Hawkins had hidden several stolen items from the property. Hawkins was placed under arrest and transported to the Dumas City Jail, where he was charged with Criminal Trespassing and Theft of Property.
On 7/13/2023 at 10:40 p.m. Deputies Wayna Green, Reshawn Bledsoe, and Alan Hernandez, responded to a 911 call regarding a road rage incident on State Highway 1. The caller was traveling northbound on Hwy 1 between Watson and Back Gate. She stated that a vehicle was following her and had made two attempts to run her off the roadway. As the victim turned south on U.S. Hwy 165 toward Dumas, Deputies intercepted her, and the vehicle that was following her. Upon investigation of the incident, Deputy Green arrested 30-year-old Ray Moss of Kelso, and transported him to the Dumas City Jail, where he was booked for Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test, and Reckless Driving. The case is under further investigation.
On 7/15/2023 at 6:39 p.m. Deputies Wayna Green and Alan Hernandez responded to a 911 call on Delta Queen Street in Arkansas City, regarding a male subject lying in the street that had been stabbed and was covered in blood. Upon arrival Deputy Green located the suspect, who was wearing white clothing, that was covered in blood. The suspect, 25-year-old Christopher McDaniels, was being non-compliant and refused to follow Deputy Green’s lawful orders. Deputy Green deployed his taser twice, which was ineffective. State Park Ranger Geoff Wright arrived at the scene to assist. Ranger Wright deployed his taser, which was again, ineffective, and McDaniels continued to walk down the road, screaming incoherently. Deputy Hernandez soon arrived on scene. As the Deputies and Ranger continued to give McDaniels orders to stop and get on the ground, he continued to walk away and scream at the Officers. After pepper spray was ineffective, Deputy Hernandez and Ranger Wright was able to take McDaniels to the ground and place him in handcuffs. McDaniels, who had only been release from prison three weeks prior to this incident, was transported to the McGehee City Jail, where he is being held on a $500,000 bond, pending formal charges by the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
On July 16th at 4:40 p.m., Deputy Reshawn Bledsoe was patrolling the area of West Farmer and U.S. Hwy 65 in Dumas, when he initiated a traffic stop on a Blue 2014 BMW passenger car. Upon conducting a probable cause search of the vehicle, a 17-year-old juvenile passenger was arrested for possession of a firearm, after Deputy Bledsoe found a Mini Draco, which is a AK-47 style “pistol” with a 30 round magazine, inside the juvenile’s backpack. After contacting the Juvenile Authorities, they ordered the subject to be held in a secure juvenile facility. Deputy Bledsoe later transported the subject to the Yell County Juvenile Detention Facility in Danville, where he was booked for Minor in Possession of Firearm.
