From the outset, it was clear that Congress was not about to impartially investigate the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol.
Both parties have political motivations in coming up with a result that either blames former President Trump for the assault or exonerates him.
So it’s no surprise that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Republican leader Kevin McCarthy are at odds over which GOP members should serve on the House committee looking into the siege.
Pelosi, though, had good reason to use her veto power to reject two of McCarthy’s five choices, Reps. Jim Banks of Indiana and Jim Jordan of Ohio. Their allegiance to Trump is so blatant that their only objective would be to undermine the committee’s work.
