Most aircraft have avionics in their nose cone. Like radar, and other communication devices. The information collected by these instruments is sent to the pilot who must use his training to interoperate the data, proper interpretation leads to a safe and profitable flight. The Christian life is a little like this plane, we communicate with the Spirit world through our emotions, thoughts, and feelings, and we must use training to interoperate these feelings, and thoughts, proper interpretation will lead to a smooth and safe life, wrong judgment of these messages will lead to a spiritual plane crash. The bible says:
Ecc. 2:14 The wise use their eyes, but the fool walks in darkness.
It is wise to seek God for guidance it leads to great success in life. I sought God for who to marry, he spoke to me and told me who to marry, and it worked out great. When chaplains were threatened in schools, I sought God to help prevent the gospel being taken out of the schools, and he spoke to me and took me to scientific case studies that proved the effectiveness of the gospel in reforming prisoners. These studies were handed to the people involved in the court case. Many times God has spoken to me, with salvations resulting, or people being rescued from harm. However in the midst of all of this the devils voice is also there quietly trying to discredit God’s works, and cause me to cause harm to others.
James 1:5 If any of you need wisdom, you should ask God, and it will be given to you. God is generous and won't correct you for asking.
The first key in discerning God’s voice, is to continually ask for confirmation and understanding, don’t just assume that because you have prayed once you have heard God. When it comes to yourself don’t trust anything, use wisdom and patience. Test is it loving, edifying, and sure. I have never, not once, had God tell me something bad about anyone, or had him tell me to bring judgment on some one. He once told me a young famous person would die, and they did, shortly afterwards. But he has never said anything bad about any one. If you ever hear something bad about some one, ask God to reveal to you something good about that person. So when you meet them, even if they have hurt you, you have something edifying to share. If there really is something wrong God will uncover it in his time.
Luke 8:17 There is nothing hidden that will not be revealed, and there is nothing secret that will not become known and come to light.
The second key, is to not judge other peoples visions, or faith. From experience I have never had a Christian share a word they received from God, or their testimony without the devil saying they are not really a very dedicated Christian, or he tells me they heard of the devil himself. Satan is very persistent he will peddle this lie 24 hours a day, even when you ignore it he will continue and say “God is telling you this person is not dedicated, or not of God”, it will often times even feel like God. Never judge a person based upon a feeling, think the best of others. Encourage their visions, talk to them about them, and pray that they succeed in them. Often God will give a person a dream, vision, or call, and you will be unaware of it, if you listen to the feelings of judgment you will destroy their vision. Help others and encourage them.
Be wary of personal bias and opinion. If the devil can’t get you to sin, he will try to get you to become overly religious, you will disapprove of movies, music, and fun. You will think life is all about discipline, and hard work. But Jesus said:
Mat. 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Don’t tell people they can’t do things. Or that God does not approve of this or that. There is very little that God does not approve of. If the word of God does not say it is wrong, then don’t add to God’s words. It is what the Pharisees did. They made rule upon rule, and lost sight of the mercy and love of God.
