The Arkansas Newspaper Foundation recently selected Dumas graduate Joe Santana, as one of three chosen, state-wide, to participate in the 2022 ANF Student Internship Program. Joe will intern throughout the summer at The Dumas Clarion.
“We are honored to have Joe as our 2022 ANF Student Intern for the summer,” said Rick Wright, Publisher of The Dumas Clarion. “Joe is an excellent photographer and has his own photography business on the side, while attending Henderson State University.”
“I'm super grateful for the opportunity,” said Joe. “No amount of words show how excited I am. I'm already loving every second of it!”
I ask Joe to tell us a little about his college plans and goals.
“I've been majoring in journalism at Henderson State University,” said Joe. “I decided to transfer to University of Arkansas Little Rock for the next two years, because of the recent events that have occurred at Henderson with the university taking away the journalism program and many other programs. I've transferred and just made my schedule at UA Little Rock.”
“I've wanted to be in the field of journalism since I was old enough to know what the word journalism meant,” said Joe.
Joe worked for the Henderson State newspaper, the Oracle and for KSWH 102.5 FM The Pulse of Arkadelphia, which is the Henderson's Official Radio Station.
Joe says he will be grateful for any journalism opportunity after he graduates. But he mostly wants to be a news anchor or a radio personality where ever the opportunity comes from.
