The Dumas City Council voted Thursday to raise sanitation rates 20 percent and increased water and sewer rates since 1964, bringing the minimum for water, sewage, and garbage collection to $8.50, and increase of $2 on a minium bill in Dumas for residential customers.
Four prisoners escaped from the Desha County Jail at Arkansas City Tuesday evening, but one returned voluntarily and three were apprehended Wednesday, Sheriff Roy Hogg said. Wednesday.
Desha County Hospital will participate in a medical residents program planned by the University of Arkansas Medical School’s Department of Family Practice.
Star City, led by Beth Steed’s 34 points, whipped the Dumas Kats at the DHS Gym Thursday, 55-30, but Dumas managed a split by easily winning the B-game, 35-21.
The Dumas Jr. Kats read the quarter finals of the Parkdale Invitational Junior Tournament last week bowing to then-unbeaten Wilmot, 40-24, falling to a strong final period by the winners.
