Election Day 2022 Winners and Plans!
Election Day 2022 came and went with office holders coming and going. If your choice of candidate did not win, perhaps you did not do enough to pull them to victory. Because VOTING is such a fundamental right, I hope all who are eligible, went to the polls and used that right as part of your civic duty. If you are eligible to vote and stood on the sidelines and allowed others to decide for you, then thank them for their choices.
Municipal and County races in 2022 were much more competitive than in past years, and that is a good thing. It is my belief that this healthy competition caused more residents to discuss, track and participate in our local politics. Most of the November 8th winners will be sworn into office in January, 2023 and I hope they have already begun to surround themselves with a Think Tank or Sounding Board that will un-officially give feedback about potential policies.
As for election results on the state level in Arkansas, Desha County is predominately a Democratic voting bloc, yet, we ushered into the Governor’s Mansion, a person who is on the Trump Team. The state level political apparatus has been at work since 2018 and successfully paved the way for then Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee-Sanders to become a candidate in Arkansas. If the news reports are correct, Huckabee-Sanders was encouraged and allowed to resign her job in Washington, D.C. move back to Arkansas to fulfill her residency requirements so that she could run for the position of Governor. Huckabee-Sanders’ father, a former governor of Arkansas, worked with the political structure/apparatus to clear the path for her victory. Now, you must know that this is not the end of the story. The news reports also says that Huckabee-Sanders needed the win in Arkansas as an elected official so that she can ride the Republican ticket in 2024 as a running mate with Donald Trump.
Wake up all of Dumas and Desha County! Continue your discussions, tracking and participating in our local politics. For ways to expand your knowledge and/or participate, contact a member of the Desha County Social Justice Advocacy Alliance or a person elected on November 8th.
I hope you will get involved!
