The people of Dumas, and the staff of Dumas High School deserve a pat on the back for rearing the amazing bunch of young men that make up the Dumas High School football team.
On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, my family and I traveled from Crossett to cheer on our son as he competed in the special Olympics.
We were immediately greeted warmly and with respect. Help was offered, and joyful help at that, which is unquestionably the best and most helpful kind. Everywhere we turned, a young man in a DHS uniform was putting in work to accommodate a visitor and extend the hospitality that a host of any event should strive to always extend.
Where these young men really shined was in how they interacted with the athletes who had come to compete. They rallied around every single one of them and made the children and their families feel seen, included, and valued.
They celebrated EVERY achievement, no matter how small, with the same contagious enthusiasm they bring to the end zone and made those special boys and girls feel like real champions. The joy on the field was powerful and necessary. Those young gentlemen made a special day not only more special, but memorable for everyone involved. They are exemplary members of the Dumas community, and the city should be proud of them.
