Sky Cop Units have been installed in various places around Dumas.
I asked Dumas Chief of Police Keith Finch to tell me about these cameras.
“Those are the new Sky Cop Unites,” said Chief Finch. “A lot of citizens are hesitant to come forward when they see something. These Sky Cop Units will help us solve crimes. I've received a lot of negative comments, but also a lot of positive comments on these Units. In the long run, I think they're going to payoff to benefit the City.”
Are these cameras monitored by the City or how does this work?
“These Units are monitored, I can even pull and monitor whats on the units, on my cell phone, and live view right now,” said Finch.
Some people have expressed concern that they are being spied on by these cameras?
“We are trying to make the City a safer and better place,” said Finch. “On several I have actual people that live in those areas come out and thank me. And they want more.”
“One guy told me he was glad I was putting that camera up. Maybe they'll stop shooting over here at night. So, It's going to be a trial but I think we'll have success from this. In one apartment complex, a manager came out and wanted information on the cameras because she wanted to get some cameras. So hopefully they'll expand and like I said, at the end of the day make the City a safer and better place.”
“A lot of people want all the stuff to come to Dumas, but they don't realize if the crime rate is high, those places are not going to come here unless we can show them that we can protect their employees and their particular products
