As the Old Testament Builder and Warrior, Nehemiah was deeply saddened by the place of where his legacy was left in ruins, today, so are many who see Dumas in need of rebuilding. Rebuilding the joy, unity, hope faith and spirit of brotherly and progressiveness is up for a new beginning.
Imagine 500-1,000 plus coming home to Dumas with this spirit of Nehemiah, saying… ‘Let us rise up and build. Let us stop the hate and foolishness of pride. Let us truly connect with the spirit of building a better Dumas, tomorrow on TODAY!’ Can it be? Yes, it can! Will it? Yes… It’s happening now!
The news of the Homecoming, Reunion and Convention in West Dumas is spreading. Three days of getting acquainted and re-united with family, friends and community is underway. March 18—20 are the set days for ALLOFDUMASUNITED to come out and see Dumas on the move. A new campus is coming. A new day is emerging.
A special weekly radio show from The College of Aspiring Artists Presents, will feature great days in Dumas and the great talent that is still being produced. The Homecoming, Reunion and Convention Spotlight will also broadcast on Monday, March 7, and March 14 with full one-hour segments and will spotlight the activities and legacy leaders who are making it happen.
While the 18th and 20th are still in the making, Saturday, March 19th is the Festival Day of Music, Art, Creativity and great food.
The park at THE LEGACY CENTER in West Dumas at 501 W. Bowles is the venue for all the activities on Saturday. The day will feature vendors with food, retail shopping and musical talents performing. The day starts and 12noon and goes till 6pm. The stage and production is set up to feature major acts with the spotlight on The Racy Brothers and other hometown and statewide talents. A New Artist Showcase will feature scholarships for creative careers. Other scholarships will honor pioneer leaders including, Dr. A.L. Hunt, Sr., Merle Peterson, and other legacy icons both leaving and deceased.
As previously stated, “Homecoming returns and it’s bringing many people home to Dumas for love, restoration and good times. But it’s also about building a better Dumas (especially our youth)The ‘We Survived” message is saying to everyone to be grateful to still be alive. It promises to bring people home who have not seen each other in sometimes years. Stories from ‘test to testimony’ and from trials to triumph will be shared.
