The Dumas City Council Swearing-in Ceremony swore in 8 elected officials at the Dumas Community Center Monday, January 2, 2023.
The Honorable Crews Puryear gave the oath of office to Dennis Blankenship as Desha County Constable; City Councilmembers Jared May City Council Ward 1, Position 2, Tironeka Brown, Ward 3, Position 2, and Kenneth Daniels, Ward 4, Position 2; Dumas City Clerk Norma Eldridge; Dumas City Attorney Brooks Gill and Mayor Price Bubba Boney, Sr. City Councilmember-elect Linda Weatherford Ward 2, Position 2 will be sworn in at a later date.
Mayor Boney gave a short speech after taking his oath.
“First of all, I would like to thank you for your support. I am going to work as hard as I can to improve the lives of the Dumas people. I need your help along with the council and I am going to cut it short right there. I love you and go Dumas,” Boney said.
Each person taking the oath repeated: “I, official name here, do solemnly swear or affirm that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Arkansas and I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office (position here) which I am now about to enter.”
City Councilmember Romona Weatherford welcomed the city officials and crowd to the event. Rev. Italino Joiner gave the invocation.
“Being a councilmember is not easy. It is a challenge for any town, but it is also an opportunity for us to make Dumas a better place and I challenge each one of you that serves on the city council this year let's make Dumas a great place to live and raise our children. I know there is a special reason that each one of you were elected this year. Our citizens voted for us to place us in this position to not only lead, but to serve,” Weatherford said.
