The LandMark Vegetation Management Division removed the historic Cherry Oak tree in front of the CenturyLink building Friday, April 15, 2022.
The tree was removed due to falling limbs and overall condition of the tree. The limb that fell on the building Tuesday around 6:30 pm. weighed an estimated 8,000 pounds and had approximately 106-108 rings.
According to CenturyLink that section of the building was being used as a conference room and no one was inside the building when it fell. The damaged part of the building will be removed and sealed.
Trevor Brown works in the CenturyLink Maintenance Division, that covers exterior maintenance for the company in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas. The workers are from Missouri and Texas. They worked on the tree for three days with the assessment of the project and limb removal from the building.
Some of the wood was given away for firewood.
The base is too large to be milled. Brown plans to take a section of the stump back to create a table top with a metal base.
