The 8th Annual Merry Main Street drew a crowd of over 400 people Thursday, December 3, 2021.
The event opened with the Candyland Dance Studio student dressed up with lights walking or riding scooters down Main Street and followed by Santa in his sleigh. The family-friendly event offered carnival rides, camel rides, kiddie train and a petting zoo. The Billy Free Park gazebo became a gingerbread house with inflatable gingerbread men. The area hosted games for children and a visit with Santa Claus.
The Merchant and Farmers Bank held their Soup Contest with eight soups entered into the contest. Scottie Grimes won the Golden Ladle with his Cheesy Chicken Soup. The bank asked for donation from people who tried the variety of soups. The Dumas Food Pantry received the donations from the contest.
18 vendors including Rachel Holthoff, Rachel Mann, Tammy Healey, Sue Gill and Marilyn McDonald, Deb Johnson, Inks & Threads, Claudia Sullivan, Jerruson Edwards, the Dumas Public Library, Jana Teeter with Delta Darlings, Jodie Partridge, Daughters of Charity, Chasing Ray Designs, Center Elementary Save the Children, Woodside Medical, Newswangers, LA Metal Works, Main Street Dumas, and HubCap Danns. The food trucks included the Monticello Coffee Company and The Criossanterie.
The venders sold homemade items and a variety of other items. Central Elementary handed out over 300 free Children's books and soap donated by Save the Children. The Dumas Public Library held their drawing for a fire pit donated by LA Metal Works with Susan Walt as the winner. Simmons Bank provided bags of popcorn and M&F Bank furnished free water. Main Street Dumas honored the late Paula White by giving out free Paula's Cookies.
Sue Gill, Main Street Dumas, chaired the event.
