Approaches $600,000 in COVID Relief and Food Distribution… Dairy Returns This Thursday
On June 6, 2019, Acting Assistant to the Secretary for Rural Development Joel Baxley announced that 47 rural recipients would receive technical assistance to help create and implement long-term economic development plans. The program, Rural Economic Development Innovation (REDI) initiative has now received the Strategic Plan from the two-year timeline from the Arkansas recipient.
Arkansas’s recipient is housed in Dumas, Arkansas at the West Dumas Community Family Life Center, (WDLC) now known as The Legacy Center in West Dumas, where ASC Property Management is the Backbone partner. During the next five months, (August 2021—December 2021), the residents in ASC Management Company, will receive education and special services provided by The College of Aspiring Artists and The Legacy Center.
On Thursday, August 26, the Arkansas Foodbank continues its partnership with The Legacy Center in West Dumas for 2021. Pictured here is Rev. Arthur L. Hunt, Jr., with new support from Hiland Dairy to return milk and dairy products to the monthly food distribution.
The distribution will begin at 1:00pm from the ASC Property Management at 710 Meador Dr., located behind Mad Butcher.
On Monday August 23, Infectious Disease Expert, Virologist Dr. Lane Rolling, M.D., Director of Clinical Education and Research at the Tropical Pathology and Infectious Disease Association (pictured here with Mayor Shirley Washington, Rev. Arthur L. Hunt, Jr. and Saint Mary Harris) made a return visit to Dumas after a stop in Little Rock and Pine Bluff with Mayor Shirley Washington and leader from Pine Bluff to share insights at a gathering on how to most effectively deal with COVID—19 and the multiple variants.
Beyond the information session, COVID-19 testing now continues in Dumas through a collaborative partnership between Dr. Karen Crowell, MD of Pinnacle Family Medicine and Alethea Mays, Chief Executive Officer of RHEA Medical Support Services. Testing of all the ASC and Southland Property Management Companies is first up to help mitigate and contain the virus not only in Dumas but across the state of Arkansas. 50 properties will receive onsite education, testing and vaccine options.
The College of Aspiring Artists, The West Dumas Community Family Life Center and other institutional partners will lead out with this mission through public relations along with Health and Wellness programs and a new program, Digital Arts Technology College Network (DAT—C) that help during the COVID pandemic. The program focuses on education, entrepreneurship and economic development with jobs being offered. The core mission is providing education and workforce opportunities to students who are primary in low-income housing (but also other participants), the tools necessary for the students/participants to be successful business executives or entrepreneurs inside the creative economy workforce.
