There has been some confusion from our Dumas area residents on what number to call in an emergency. With the creation of Central Dispatch beginning January 1 of this year, all residents should call 911 in an emergency. That instantly connects you to a dispatcher.
If Dumas residents call 382.5511, you will get a recording. Press 1 if you have a non-emergency and want to talk to a dispatcher. When you press 1, that transfers you to the McGehee Police Department. When their recording begins, press 1 again, and you will speak to a dispatcher. If you have an EMERGENCY, dial 911. There are several reasons we want you to dial 911, one of them being that you show up on a map in dispatch. Soon, Central Dispatch will be moving into our new location on U.S. Hwy 65 in Dumas. We will have a new non-emergency number that you may dial and talk directly to a dispatcher. With progress comes change. Be patient while we go through these changes. You will ALWAYS be able to talk with a dispatcher. There are always two on duty. Dial 911 in an emergency please. When we get our new number, we will blast it out so that everyone will know how to contact central dispatch directly. In any event, if you dial 870.382.5511, or 870.222.3636, and press 1, you will speak with a dispatcher. Please share this information with anyone you know in Desha County, and those in Lincoln County that want to utilize DUMAS EMS. Thank you.
