Rose Mary -Breckenridge Small, was born on March 13, 1957 to Mr. & Mrs. John Richard Breckenridge of Dermott, Arkansas. Her Father, John Breckenridge, a soldier in the United States Army made sure he did what it took to provide for his wife and children. Rose, the eldest of nine siblings grew up living a Military lifestyle which was significantly different in comparison to their Civilian lifestyle, but her parents did not mind that at all because they wanted their children to have that experience.
She and her siblings traveled to many different states as well as other countries and some of her fondest memories were being exposed to different cultures. Ms. Small, who is now employed by the Dumas Public School District, has a long track record of extensive experience in the classroom. She is well known for her successful teaching skills and her ability to make a huge difference in the lives of her students.
Rose Small is the proud mother of three sons and one daughter who has blessed her with nine wonderful grandchildren. She is a member of Saint Peter’s Rock M.B.C in Dumas, Arkansas where the Rev. Larry Alexander serves as Pastor. As a Sunday school teacher at her church and a Kindergarten teacher at Central Elementary, in Dumas, Arkansas proves that Rose loves teaching. She works diligently with her students daily to ensure that they receive the best education possible and she prides herself on being a hard worker and doing whatever she can to help others.
The family’s military lifestyle gave Rose and her siblings an opportunity to experience and receive a formal education during the time period of segregation and integration throughout the United States and Europe. After receiving her High school diploma in Germany, she attended college at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas. There Rose received a Bachelor of Science in Education as well as becoming a Commissioned Officer in the United States Army Reserve.
After completing her active-duty obligation in the United States Military, she began her teaching career, and it has been full speed ahead ever since. Ms. Rose Mary Breckenridge, Small, a Veteran of the United States Army, has been an educator for thirty - four years and she is just as passionate about it now as she was the first day she began her teaching career.
This occupation has afforded her many opportunities such as being able to teach in public and private sectors. Her greatest joy has been working with young children and meeting their families. Ms. Small has been inspired by many colleagues during her career while teaching throughout the United States. One of her family’s favorite sayings is “A good education is the key to success”!
