Two Inmates Escape from Dumas City Jail, One Still At-large
Dumas Police Officers Crystal Martin and Hargrove were dispatched to the Dumas Police Department in reference of an Escape Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at approximately 8:40 pm.
Dispatchers advised inmates locked the Jailer, Clinton Gage Waldrup, in a cell and was running out the front of the Police Department.
As Officer Martin and Hargrove approached Waterman Street at Main Street, they observed a white male inmate wearing white shirt and orange pants running south across the street from the Police Department towards a white truck. The inmate entered into the truck on the drivers side when officer Martin blocked the vehicle in. Officer Hargrove and Martin jumped out of the patrol car with their service weapons drawn, commanding the inmate to turn off the vehicle and get out.
The inmate refused and put the truck in reverse gear, then put it in drive gear and hit the gas, crashing into the Clarion building and a yard brick fence, also damaging the newspaper stand.
Officer Hargrove opened the driver door and officers pulled the inmate out on the ground and put him in handcuffs. The inmate was then identified as Billy Joe Walls.
Dispatcher Taylor Randle stated a second black male inmate identified as Deon “Boogie” Williams was in the yard next door to the Clarion Building jumping the fence leading to a back alleyway.
Officers set up a perimeter and Lt. Jamie Donaldson located a jail uniform in the backyard. Also located was a set of jail keys located behind the Clarion Building.
Jailer Clinton Gage Waldrup stated the inmates punched him and had a “Shank” to him, threatening him. Waldrup stated the inmates took his cell phone, wallet, truck keys and jail keys then put him into the jail cell and locked him inside and then ran off.
The cell phone was located in Mr. Walls jail pants pocket. The wallet and truck keys were recovered from the truck. The jail uniform was recovered from the backyard as well as the jail keys.
The investigation continues.
18-year-old Female Booked for Possession of Marijuana, Fleeing
Dumas Police Officer Eric Armstrong was patrolling on Cherry Street Saturday, December 26, 2020 at approximately 7:10 pm, when he saw a Grey Honda Civic car parked on the side of the road with the lights off.
As officer Armstrong passed by he saw a person inside the vehicle and proceeded to make contact with the car.
After Officer Armstrong turned on his blue lights the vehicle started to pull off. Armstrong turned on his units sirens and the vehicle sped up and proceeded to drive north on Cherry St.
Officer Armstrong notified dispatch the vehicle was not stopping and called for Officer Tavion Vaughn to come towards them.
The passenger door began to open and a black male with dreads only wearing a black T-shirt fled from the vehicle into a field. Officer Vaughn tried to make contact with that subject, but was unable to locate him.
After the passenger fled from the vehicle, the driver began to drive off again. The vehicle finally came to a stop on Cherry and Bowls St. After the driver, 18-year-old Taynaa Wishom of Gould was in custody, she identified the male subject that fled as Tyrese Boyd.
After searching the vehicle I and Officer Vaughn found a small bag of marijuana in the passenger seat along with a magazine loaded with nine 9mm bullets. There was also a bag of live 9mm bullets in a small bag in the passenger seat.
Taynna Wishom was then transported to Dumas PD and booked for possession of marijuana and fleeing in a vehicle.
