Ricky Vickers, a senior at Dumas High School, has been named winner in the essay contest on “What it means to be an American.”
The American Legion Auxiliary here sponsored the contest and Ricky’s essay will be entered in the state competition.
The safe at Desha Central School was cracked during the weekend and about $200 taken.
Jerry Wilson, who won first place in the American Legion oratorical contest Monday, presented his winning oration to the Dumas Lions Club at noon today.
