Dumas is moving forward with the USDA REDI, Rural Economic Development Innovation that is based at The Legacy Center in West Dumas. The program has not only brought in over $500,000 dollars in food distribution to and from Dumas to neighboring towns of Pine Bluff, McGehee, Dermott, Earle, etc., but has also done skilled work in innovation partnership development that continues to go into the strategic plan. The photo here shows Rev. Arthur L. Hunt, Jr., meeting at the national office of the GoFresh Food Distributor.
This Friday, April 23, the first distribution from the GoFresh suppliers of fresh food, dairy, meat, and milk heads to The Legacy Center at 501 W. Bowles. Distribution begins at 1pm. Everyone is welcome.
It is the same one that we’ve being doing at ASC Property Management behind Mad Butcher. We have had great success from there. We are moving it to our main location beginning this Friday for a few good reasons. First, we have the space and the grounds to do the food distribution but in addition we will have cooking classes, tasting days, recreational activities and some networking and entertainment that will be good for ‘all of Dumas/Desha and SEARK,’ stated, Rev. Arthur L. Hunt, Jr.
A new route to line up for the food distribution focuses on vehicles lining up coming north from Pickens and the industry route on main to cross the tracks at W. Bowles. The line will proceed west on Bowles and persons will have their vehicles loaded and proceed to Cherry and turn right.
The route will include some streets being blocked so that traffic can flow and neighbors can move in and out with as much ease as possible. Following the route will very be important. The center is working with the Dumas Police Department to assist.
The additional programs listed here will start next month during the Memorial Day weekend. The Legacy Center leaders are inviting and desiring community partners and stakeholders and individual donors to support the center and the new development and to especially assist with monthly food distribution operations to cover, stipends, transportation costs, PPE, etc., which is a minimum of $1,200-$1,500. All amounts are welcomed. Volunteers are also needed on site for the distribution for 3-5 hours during the monthly distributions.
