Alma Lee Wynn “Nan” West, of Star City, Arkansas, passed away peacefully July 4, 2020, at Dalton’s Place in Star City, Arkansas. Born February 17, 1923, she was one of 7 children of Waldo and Flossie Wynn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Edward West, whom she had married on September 17, 1943, by her parents, and by her sisters; Mae Wynn, Jean Reichen, and Merle Holt and by her brothers Leslie and Buell Wynn.
Survivors include one sister Irene Stewart of Hot Springs, Arkansas and three children; Michael West (Sharon) of Benton, Arkansas, Romona Weatherford (Lynn) of Dumas, Arkansas, and Regenia Barrett (Randy) of Gentry, Arkansas, and six grandchildren; Melinda Shelton (Bart) of Benton, Arkansas, Cindy Purifory (Jason) of Chidester, Arkansas, Shane Weatherford (D’Ann) of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Lori Knight (Kevin) of Bentonville, Arkansas, Jason Lyle Barrett of Gentry, Arkansas, and Jonathan West Barrett (Katherine) of Siloam Springs Arkansas; and eight great grandchildren- Marty Shelton, Mallory Shelton, Michael Shane Weatherford (Kolby), Tyler Weatherford, Kyle Knight, Chloe Knight, Christian Barrett, Lyle Barrett, and three great-great children-Cheyenne, Tynsley, and Landon Weatherford and a host nieces, nephews and friends.
Alma was a dedicated mother. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role of Nan and Grand-Nan. She was a charter and faithful member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Star City, Arkansas where she taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of the Women for Christ. She was a homemaker, seamstress, quilter, and wonderful cook. She loved to paint. She and Martin also owned and operated West Grocery in Tarry, Arkansas. Her grandkids know her for her homemade bread and dumplings! When family come, she always made everyone’s favorite dish. Alma West will be remembered for her love of God and her kindness to people. She was a devoted prayer warrior for family and friends, especially her Faith Sunday School class. Alma had a deep love for the staff and residents of Dalton’s Place.
In respect of these difficult times our nation is experiencing, only a private family service will be held. The family offers thanks for the many prayers and support we were given. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Missions at First Free Will Baptist Church, 209 Church Street, Star City, AR 71667.
