Ray Alton McCallie, 81, of Arkansas City, Arkansas passed away Sunday, August 23, 2020. Ray was born in Arkansas City, Arkansas on February 5, 1939 to the late Chester Willis McCallie and Ruby Carter McCallie. He was a 1957 graduate of Arkansas City High School and graduated from Arkansas A&M, which is now the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Ray retired as Manager of Bunge Grain Elevator after 33 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Desha Lodge #643 F&AM. Ray was also a member of Gideon’s International. He loved to hunt, fish and work in the garden. Ray was a member of Arkansas City Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Roy McCallie and Louis McCallie and his sister, Patsy McCallie. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Cynthia Vick McCallie; son, James (Carrie) McCallie of Monticello, AR; daughter, Karen (Joe) Robertson of Tillar, AR; brothers, Dale (Lana) McCallie of Irving, TX and Don (Peggy) McCallie of Dittmer, MO; sister, Judy (Frank) Appleberry of Tillar, AR; brother-in-law, W J “Pick” Vick of El Dorado, AR; sister-in-laws, Pat McCallie of McGehee, AR and Becky McCallie of Monticello, AR; grandchildren, Shannon (Travis) Mosier, Josh Robertson, Tyler Robertson, Jonathan Halley, Brittany Halley and Christopher Halley and 3 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00pm Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at Griffin-Culpepper Funeral Service in McGehee, AR. Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jody Gannaway and Rev. Bobby Pennington officiating. Burial will be at McGehee Cemetery.
