Patricia Collins announces her candidacy for Desha County Judge.
Collins was born at home and raised on the family farm in Dumas, AR. After finishing high school she continued her education. She earned a CNA, Certified Associates Degree in Business Management, Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, she studied Immigration Law and she speaks two languages (English and Spanish).
Collins is the daughter of the late Don and Barbara Luker, the granddaughter of the late Charles Ray Luker, the granddaughter of Alma Luker, and the granddaughter of the late Laudal and Margaret Bryant.
Collins worked for Able Bodied Labor which employed over 500 people daily during Hurricane Katrina. She managed demolition cleanup, remodeling and redoing roads and highways from rebar work to concrete pouring.
Collins has several years of office management skills. She has worked with a federal judge who taught her many responsibilities.
Collins says she is proud of her childhood life and the way she was raised. She bought a small home in McGehee, AR where she currently resides. She says, “It's not about the higher things in life because I've had all of those things. Those things don't make you who you are, they can make you untrue to yourself and two others.” She likes being real with herself and being real with the community, and people.
Collins belongs to several organizations and helps do fundraisers for the community. She says she is a people person.
Collins believes in listening and understanding each and every person's concerns and problems, and envisioning a plan to fixing those problems.
Collins says being raised on a farm, you learn hard work, you learn responsibilities. You learn to help, you learn to give, you learn the meaning of life and dedication to others.
I learned how to operate tractors, Bush hogs, driving Bob trucks (18 Wheeler's), running chainsaws and so forth, says Collins.
Collins has worked in the County Clerks Office with Voter Registration. She worked during the pandemic election, which was one of the most challenging. “I learned things that made me want to do things better for our community.” said Collins. “I am confident in myself as a female and not afraid of hard work, tasks or challenges.”
Collins has a vision if elected Desha County Judge. “That vision will only work if we are united together,” says Collins. “I believe if we work together we can make Desha County better and bigger. I believe strongly in respecting people, and our community.”
