Camille Yvonne Sterrett, the daughter of Arnell and Jacqueline Washington and Jessie Earl Reed, Jr. of Dumas, earned her Doctor of Education degree from Arkansas State University during their December 2021 Commencement exercise.
Sterrett has been in education for 24 years and currently serves as the Directory of Special Programs for the Dumas Public Schools. She previously held the positions of Teacher Recruitment and Retention Program Advisor for the Arkansas Department of Education, Curriculum Coordinator for the University of Arkansas at Monticello (McGehee Campus) and an elementary teacher for both the Dumas and McGehee School Districts.
Sterrett graduated from Dumas High School in 1993 and received her B.S. in Elementary Education in 1997 from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from the University of Arkansas at Monticello in 2005 and Ed. S. in Educational Leadership with a concentration in superintendency from Arkansas State University in 2014.
Sterrett’s dissertation titled: “School Counselors Supporting the Needs of
Homeless Students” will be published and released soon. Her goal is to provide support to Arkansas school counselors that will aid in resources that will assist homeless students throughout the state of Arkansas as well as become a school district superintendent where she can lead the district into greater recruitment and retention.
Sterrett has one son, Caleb, who is a junior at Dumas
