Dumas Bobcats Season Recap:
The Bobcats, coached by George Shelton, have had an amazing turnaround season, after going 1-9 in 2019 to 7-3 and a 8-4A Conference Championship in 2020.
Dumas got off to a good start when they shutout the Dollarway Cardinals 8-0 on August 28.
Week two saw the Bobcats crush the Lake Village Beavers 43-0 to improve to 2-0.
The McGehee Owls came to Dumas to take on the Bobcats in the Annual AG Bowl on September 11th. The Owls defeated the Bobcats 42-6. The loss put the Bobcats at 2-1.
After an much needed OPEN week, a week of conditioning and coaching up, the Bobcats got all over the Helena-West Helena crushing the Central Cougars 42-0 at Helena to improve to 3-1.
Week six saw the Bobcats host the Crossett Eagles, Hootens preseason pick to win the 8-4A conference crown. Dumas had Crossett pinned deep inside their own five yard line with second to play in the game. The Eagle QB was tackled back in the Eagle's end zone for what appeared to be a safety. As the Dumas fans and players celebrated what looked like a miracle win, the game officials huddled for approximately five minutes. The officials had been caught flat footed, completely off guard on the play, which was supposed to be a simple kneel down by Crossett to end the contest. Amazingly, the ball was placed back at the original line of scrimmage and the clock was allowed to run out, robbing the Bobcats of their miracle finish as Crossett was given the 21-20 win. The loss dropped Dumas to 3-2.
The Bobcats traveled to Warren the following week to take on the Lumberjacks in a steady pouring rain. Dumas tied the game 7-7 on a long Kylin James touchdown run, however, the Bobcats faded quickly in the rain and suffered a 40-7 loss to drop to 3-3 on the season.
Dumas hosted Star City the following week and knocked the Bulldogs off 35-29 to improve to 4-3.
The DeWitt Dragons came to town to take on the Bobcats on Dumas Senior Night. The Bobcats dominated the Dragons 28-0, improving to 5-3.
Coach Shelton took his Bobcat squad to Monticello on week 10. Dumas was firing on all cylinders and cruised 42-20 past the Billies to go to 6-3.
The final week of the regular season saw the Bobcats go to Hamburg. Dumas outplayed the Lions on their home field, defeating Hamburg 26-14 to improve to 7-3 and win the 2020 8-4A Conference Championship and a first round state playoff bye.
