The Dumas Bobcat football team, under Head Coach George Shelton, opened the 2020-2021 season with an 8-0 victory over Dollarway Friday, Augusts 28, 2020 at Dumas.
Nothing like a usual start to high school football. The Bobcats have not had the numbers to scrimmage, so going against Dollarway was pretty much their first contact, tackling of the season. Considering that, the defense held up pretty well.
The contest was tied into the fourth quarter when the Bobcats put together the games only scoring drive, topped off by a short touchdown run by Brandon Johnson.
Later, the Dumas defense trapped the Dollarway quarterback in his own endzone to make the score 8-0.
Senior Running back #3 Kylin James led the way for the Bobcats with 160 yards on 18 carries. That's an average of 8.9 yards per carry.
Sophomore Brandon Johnson #24 carried the ball 11 times, for 44 yards and scored the games only touchdown.
Sophomore Jase Bishop #8 rushed for 23 yards on five carries, while senior J. Washington #10 gained 14 yards on two carries. Senior Tamara Parker #14 carried one time for seven yards, while senior Dacario Tatum #26 gained one yard on one carry.
The Bobcats rushed for 249 yards on 38 carries, averaging 6.6 yards per carry and rushed for one touchdown.
Parker led Dumas with 39 yards on two receptions, while Washington caught three passes for 29 yards. Senior Shamarcus Heard #11 made on reception for 13 yards.
The Bobcat receivers caught six passes for 81 yards, averaging 13.5 yards per catch.
Defensively, Dumas recorded 27 solo tackles, 32 assisted tackles for 59 total tackles in the contest.
Senior Daylen Davis led the way with 10 total tackles, five solo and five assisted, while senior J. Hill recorded six total tackles, three solo and three assisted.
Junior Derick Lee and Heard made five tackles each, while Washington, junior Jackson Dickson, senior Roman James, sophomore Brandon Johnson, senior Cole Palsa and junior Kavion Beavers had four tackles each.
Senior Dacario Tatum had three tackles, while junior River Patton and Kylin James recorded two tackles each.
Three Bobcats each recorded a sack, Davis, junior Broda Trotter and Hill.
Brandon Johnson made the Bobcats only interception.
The 1-0 Bobcats host the 0-1 Lakeside Beavers, who suffered a 46-6 loss at Monticello, Friday night with kickoff set for 7 PM.
