The Dumas Bobcats suffered a 42-6 loss to the McGehee Owls in the Annual AG Bowl Friday, September 11, 2020 at Tidwell Field in Dumas.
“After looking at the film, I didn't have a problem at all with the effort,” said Bobcat Head Football Coach George Shelton. “Our execution was certainly off offensively. I though defensively we played good enough to win the ball game had we been more efficient offensively. We just kept our defense on the field to long, to many plays, poor execution at the line of scrimmage.”
“McGehee pretty much knew what our Achilles heal was in terms of our quarterback play, being so youthful that position,” said Coach Shelton. “Some of the inexperience that we have in the offensive line, technique more than anything. I can't fault their effort because, four of them are going both ways. A lot more energy is expended on defense, than it is on offense. I think sometimes on offense, maybe a couple of our guys don't put forth the same amount of effort, that they do defensively. Kind of saving it.”
“In the first half, we scored that touchdown within the last 30 or 40 seconds,” said Coach Shelton. “It would have been an 8-6 ballgame.”
McGehee kicked off to start the game.
At the 5:47 mark in the first quarter, McGehee running back #9 Jordan Owens punched it into the end zone from two-yards out. The two-point conversion failed, leaving the score McGehee 6, Dumas 0.
With 6:31 left in the first half, Dumas QB #8 Jase Bishop completed a 12 yard touchdown pass to #11 Samarcus Heard to tie the game. After the extra point was blocked, the score was left at 6-6.
McGehee QB #10 completed a 22 yard touchdown pass to #9 Caleb Woodson with only 1:46 to play in the second quarter. Jordan Owen got into the end zone on the two-point conversion to lift the Owls to a 14-6 lead at the half.
After a long run by McGehee's Owens, the Owls had a first-and-goal at the Dumas 4-yard line.
The Owls called on Owens again, who carried the ball four yards into the end zone with 6:14 left in the third quarter. Owens added the two-point conversion to put McGehee up 22-6.
McGehee defensive back #5 Marcus Rose Jr., intercepted a Dumas pass and returned the ball 30 yards for a pick-six touchdown. The Owls extended their lead to 30-6 after a successful two-point conversion run by Owens.
With 1:41 to play in the third quarter, McGehee got on the scoreboard again when #6 Jody Easter scored on a one-yard run. The extra point kick failed, leaving the score McGehee 36, Dumas 6.
Late in the fourth quarter, with a running clock, the Owl's #24 scored on a 36 yard touchdown run. McGehee missed the extra point to set the final score at McGehee 42, Dumas 6.
