The Crossett Eagles (1-1), coached by Shawn Jackson, were the Hootens Arkansas Football magazine pick to win the 2020 8-4A conference. The Eagles returned six offensive and seven defensive starters from a year ago, finishing the 2019 season in first place and received a bye in the first round of the State Playoffs. In the playoffs, the Eagles defeated Gosnell in the second round before knocking off Arkadelphia in the third. Their season ended the following week, falling 49-14 to Shiloh Christian.
Last year Crossett defeated Dumas 46-16. However, the Bobcats may have something to say this year after getting off to a 3-1 start.
Crossett defeated Osceola 26-20 in their 2020 season opener on August 29, before falling 16-6 to Magnolia on September 4th.
The Eagles run a spread offense, and line up in a multiple style defense
Offensively the Eagles are led by junior quarterback Tyrique Jones, 5-10, 165, with 4.6 speed, while junior Jackson Moore, 5-10, 175 moved to halfback this season. Crossett averages 156 yards passing and 116 yards rushing in 2020
The defense is led by All-State senior end Lamonte Gilliam 6-1, 215 who racked up 77 tackles last year, including 36 tackles for loss and 12 sacks.
Athletic senior linebacker Dwight Ashford, 5-11, 190 a two-time all-state soccer goalie, was appointed team captain in the spring.
Junior all-conference safety Danzel Watkins 6-1, 180 who racked up 70 tackles last fall, owns a scholarship offer from Louisiana Tech.
The Eagles strengths are team speed, while their weakness is lack of depth and size.
