The Dumas Bobcats improved to 2-2 in 8-4A conference play, and 4-3 overall after defeating the Star City Bulldogs 35-29 Friday, October 16 at Tidwell Field in Dumas.
The Bobcats got off to a great start Friday night against the Star City Bulldogs, when senior Bobcat #14 Tamarja Parker returned the opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown. Senior #20 Roman James kick the PAT to put Dumas up 7-0 with 11:40 to play in the first quarter.
Star City answered at the 9:40 mark, scoring a touchdown and adding a 2-point conversion to take an 8-7 lead.
On the Bobcats next possession, sophomore #24 Brandon Johnson took a hand off from senior #9 Kennon Jones, off the left side. The ball came out. Senior #10 Johntarrius Washington scooped up the fumbled ball on the run and went 35 yards for a Bobcat touchdown with 9:19 to go in the first quarter. Roman James added the extra point to put Dumas back in front 14-8.
Star City answered again, with a touchdown at the 4:40 mark. The successful extra point gave the Bulldogs a 15-14 advantage.
With 7:48 to play in the first half, senior #10 Johntarrius Washington scored on a six yard touchdown run. After an offside penalty against Star City on the extra point, the Bobcats went for two. Washington ran in the conversion to put Dumas up 22-15.
With seven seconds left in the first half, the Bulldogs completed a touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone. With the extra point the score was tied 22-22.
Star City received the second half kickoff, however the Bulldogs couldn't get anything going and punted on fourth and four to the Dumas 24 yard line.
Bobcat senior running back #3 Kylin James entered the game for the first time.
Jones took the snap and handed off to James who went around the right end, down the Dumas sideline, cutting completely back across the field and went 76 yards for a Bobcat touchdown. With the extra point by Roman James, Dumas led 29-22 with 8:11 to play in the third quarter.
At the 3:51 mark of the third quarter, the Bulldogs scored on a three yard quarterback sneak. With the extra point the game was tied 29-29.
The Bobcats next possession began at their own 23 yard line. The Bobcats went on a 77 yard scoring drive culminating in a Kylin James three yard touchdown run with 6:55 left to play. Dumas attempted a 2-point conversion pass, however the ball fell incomplete, leaving what turned out to be the final score 35-29.
