Vote! Vote! Vote! Voting season is here and there are a few deadlines and reminders I would like to share. Please double check to see that you are registered with your local County Clerk. Some people who have been registered for years are finding errors in their voter registration. Also, make sure you adhere to all deadlines with time to spare. For example, voter registration deadline is Monday, October 5, 2020. Try to get yours completed now. According to State information, the postmark on the mail-in application will be considered the submission date. It is a good idea to receive printed documentation of anything you post by mail. We are all personally responsible to make sure our individual voting activities are completed and meet the deadlines. Make sure your vote counts!
Remember, submitting your voter registration through the Postal Service, at a voter registration drive, or at just any state agency does NOT guarantee registration. Follow up and VERIFY your registration. Make sure you have received an acknowledgement of your registration from your County Clerk’s office. Official registration means you must complete a paper Voter Registration Application and submit it by Monday October 5th. You can find paper applications at the following locations: a) your local county clerk; b) the Arkansas Secretary of State Elections Division by visiting the website www.sos.arkansas.gov; c) the local revenue or DMV office; e) the Public Library; f) the Disability Agency; or g) the Military Recruitment Office.
If you are registering to vote by mail, you must provide the following: either your driver’s license number or the last four digits of your Social Security number on your Arkansas Voter Registration Application, or check the box in #9 on the application to indicate that you do not possess either a driver’s license or Social Security number. If you have any questions about the election or voter registration, feel free to call your local County Clerk, especially if you need to verify your voter registration status. You can also check your voter registration status online by visiting www.voterview.org. If you do not find yourself listed, and you think you are registered, call your County Clerk for verification. It is especially important that there are no errors associated with your registration so that you have zero problems voting. Absentee voting, early voting, and in-person voting are all options for Arkansas voters. We must simply have a plan and act early. Early voting begins on October 19, 2020 and continues thru November 2, 2020. General Election Day is November 3, 2020.
Another reminder, please continue all safety practices to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Wear masks and try to maintain six (6) feet of social distance when possible. Sanitize common surfaces; wash your hands with soap and water for at least twenty (20) seconds; and stay home if you are sick.
