The Conway Police Department recovered a 2016 Toyota 4Runner registered to Erica Byers of Dumas after a police pursuit Saturday, November 27, 2021. The vehicle had been reported stolen from a residence in Gould, Arkansas Wednesday, November 24, 2021.
According to an Incident Report written by Conway Police Department Officer Kelton Smith, the officer was parked stationary Friday, November 26, 2021 in the area of Commerce road and Harkrider Street in Conway when he observed a gray colored SUV turn into the parking lot of Dusty's (646 Harkrider Street) from Commerce Road.
The gray colored SUV drove through the parking lot of Dusty's without stopping and exited out onto Harkrider Street northbound. The vehicle committed a traffic infraction by doing this, so Officer Smith pulled out to get behind the vehicle to make a traffic stop.
While Officer Smith pursued the vehicle, Conway Police Sgt. Tucker asked if Officer Smith if he was in pursuit of the vehicle and before he could respond the vehicle slid into a fence. Officer Smith believed the driver and occupants would probably exit the vehicle and run at this time.
Officer Smith ran down the driver and place him in handcuffs. As they were walking back to the police unit, Smith noticed a black female behind them. Smith was able to detain her as well.
Officer Smith contacted on-call juvenile intake, who advised to cite and release the male to his parents/legal guardian. On-call juvenile intake was contacted in regards to the female who advised to cite and release to parents/legal guardian.
Another male who ran from the vehicle was located. He was cited and released to his parents/legal guardian. The last individual listed also ran from the vehicle and was apprehended. He was also cited and released on scene.
Arresting Offenses include: Possession of Drug Paraphernalia/Not Meth or Cocaine; Two Counts Fleeing; Careless and Prohibited Driving; Criminal Mischief 1st Degree
Officer Smith made contact with the registered owner of the gray 2016 Toyota 4Runner, Erica Byers. Byers stated the vehicle was stolen from her in-laws driveway in Gould, Arkansas on Wednesday, November 24, 2021. Byers advised she made a report about the theft at that time. Byers stated her wallet and purse were also in the vehicle and her card was used/attempted at several different locations including Conway, Arkansas. Byers advised she made a report with Gould Police Department.
Byers was advise of where her vehicle was and how to proceed from this point.
Byers advised she would contact Gould Police Department and advised them of the information she received from Officer Smith.
