On Monday, January 2nd at approximately 8:30 a.m., the Desha County Sheriff’s Office received information that an ATV (side by side) had been stolen from Widmer Lane, and that one had just been discovered turned over, in a yard at a residence in Gould. Once on scene at Gould, the ATV was confirmed to be the one stolen from Widmer Lane, in Desha County. One neighbor identified the driver of the ATV as Chris McCuan. The witness stated McCuan fled on foot after turning the ATV over. The witness stated McCuan told her that he was also in possession of a firearm.
After getting assistance from the Gould Police Department, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, and the Dumas Police Department, a manhunt ensued at various residences in Gould and Dumas, that McCuan is known to frequent. After a two hour search, a tip lead the authorities to the Exxon station in Gould, where McCuan had barricaded himself inside a bathroom stall. After a short standoff, the door was breached, and McCuan was taken into custody by the Desha County Sheriff’s Office, and Gould Police Department.
44 year old Chris McCuan, of Oakwood Bayou, was then transported to the Dumas City Jail, where he was booked for Theft of property over $2500, and Breaking or Entering. McCuan also had an outstanding warrant out of Drew County, for theft by receiving. McCuan’s bond was set at $40,000 at his first appearance hearing.
