Patrol Report
Dumas Police Department Officer Raydon Findley noticed the gate was open at Sheps Secure Storage on Highway 165 East Sunday, January 23, 2022 at approximately 3 am., according to a Dumas Police Department Incident/Information Report.
Officer Findley stated in his report, that normally around that time the gate is shut, so he decided to check it out. He discovered that unit 4E was unsecured and open.
Upon further investigation it appears the lock may have been cut. He found a chunk of lock shackle on the ground, as well as a pair of bolt cutters inside the unit.
According to Findley, it appeared as if someone had been there for a while.
Officer Findley was unable to contact the owner of the property or the owner of the unit.
Findley secured the unit with a lock and later turned the key in with his report.
Battery - 3rd Degree, Recklessly Causes Injury
Dumas Police Officer Kristy Freeman was dispatched to a location in Dumas on a domestic Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at approximately 10:15 am.
Upon arrival, Officer Freeman spoke with a juvenile boy who stated his aunt and uncle are in the bedroom and his uncle is hurting her. The child showed Officer Freeman to a back bedroom where a man was standing next to a dresser and a women was sitting on the bed holding a towel on her stomach.
Officer Freeman asked the female what her name was and she gave her name. Freeman also asked the male what his name was and he gave his name. Freeman asked the women what had happened. She stated he bit her, showing the officer the top of her left arm, and she said he jumped on her.
At that point Officer Freeman asked the male what had happened and he ignored the officer. Freeman then told him he was being placed under arrest and to put his hands behind his back. Officer Freeman got one handcuff on and the male resisted. At this point, Sgt. Crystal Martin arrived and told the male to stop resisting. The two officers were able to get the male restrained and placed in the back of Sgt. Martin's car.
The male was taken to the Dumas Police Department and charged with domestic Battery 3rd and let him bond out with a citation and court date. The female was given information on Domestic Battery and was screened.
Possessing Marijuana
While on patrol, Dumas Police Department Sgt. Greg Freeman observed a gray Honda According traveling west on East Waterman with a license plate light out Saturday, February 12, 2022 at approximately 1:03 am.
Sgt. Freeman conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle stopped at East Waterman and East Bowles.
As Sgt. Freeman made contact with the driver, he could smell the odor of Marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver seemed to be extremely nervous and reaching under the front of the drivers seat. The driver was asked to step out of the vehicle and he did as asked.
Sgt. Freeman asked the driver if there were any guns, drugs or alcohol in the vehicle. The driver advised that he had some Marijuana in the drivers door. After gaining consent to search the vehicle from the driver, a search was made.
During the search a glass container was found in the drivers door with a green leafy substance inside being what appeared to be Marijuana. The driver was place under arrest and transported to Dumas Jail and booked in with charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance. The vehicle was towed by Whaley's Tow Service. The driver was given the opportunity to bond on his charges. All evidence was placed in the evidence locker.
Residential Burglary; False Imprisonment - 2nd Degree, Interferes with Another Persons Liberty; Public Intoxication, Drinking in Public; Warrant Hold
Dumas Police Department SRO K. Freeman and Sgt. Crystal Martin were dispatched to a location on S. Willow Street in reference of a man entering a home and grabbing females.
SRO K. Freeman and Sgt. Martin were flagged down by two black females at Bowles and Maple Street. The two females pointed to a black male who was identified as 46 year-old Tyrone Ward of Dumas. Ward reportedly busted into a house, saying he was wanted for rape then grabbed the females like he was going to rape them. One of the two females stated that after he grabbed her she tried to grab her gun to defend herself. The other female stated when he grabbed her, she tried to grab a hammer to defend herself.
Both victims then stated the man left the residence walking east down Bowles Street.
SRO K. Freeman and Sgt. Martin took Ward into custody. SRO Freeman transported Ward to Dumas Jail for booking. Ward was charged with Resident Burglary, False Imprisonment, Public Intoxication and he has an active warrant.
At the time of this report Ward was awaiting a 1st Appearance.
A witness statement was taken from both women.
