FLEEING, DWI, DISORDERLY CONDUCT, CRIMINAL MISCHIEF – 1ST DEGREE, RESISTING ARREST, THREE TRAFFIC OFFENSES, BATTERY – 3RD DEGREE, HINDERING APPREHENSION OR PROSECUTION – HARBOR OR CONCEALS
Dumas Police Department Officer Wayna Green was positioned at the Smokes Shop observing traffic at the intersection of Hwy 165 and 65, Monday, April 11, 2022 at approximately 9:00 pm, when he observed what appeared to be a Harley Davidson motorcycle approach the intersection and cross over the concrete pad holding the traffic lights up, almost crashing the motorcycle.
Officer Green activated his emergency vehicle lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop on the motorcycle. The vehicle increased its speed and began to pass cars in the opposite lane at a high rate of speed. Officer Green terminated involvement with the motorcycle and made a U-Turn and continued to patrol.
At 9:50 pm Green observed what appeared to be the same motorcycle approaching from 165W onto 65N at a high rate of speed driving erratically. Green began to trail the vehicle no lights or sirens to residence on 101 Patrick Dr. Green could see the subject attempting to park the motorcycle and activated his lights and asked the subject to come to his patrol vehicle.
The subject then accelerated out the drive way ramming the patrol vehicle. According to Officer Green, as the subject was striking his vehicle he was able to see the subjects face an older white male with a beard wearing shades.
After Green's patrol vehicle was struck, he bean to pursue the motorcycle. The subject made a right turn off of Choctaw onto S. Adcock and continued through the stop sign positioned at the intersection of Adcock and Bowels nearly causing an accident.
The subject got onto Hwy 165E and the chase was terminated due to high rate of speed on the wrong side of the highway.
Once the chase was terminated Officer Green and Investigator Alan Hernandez returned to the residence to make contact with the homeowner. The homeowner stated she had a friend who stays with her sometimes.
Once the officers left the residence it was noticed that the homeowner left the residence. A short time later, the vehicle was noticed back at the residence. Patrolmen Carl McCree and Raydon Findley were sent to the residence to make contact with the subject, who officers believed to have been back at the residence.
Assistance was called by officers on scene. When Green arrived on scene he could hear a male yelling. Officer Green was immediately able to recognize the subject and ordered the subject to the ground or he would be tased. The subject began to slam the door with Green within the door frame. Officer Green deployed the taser. The subject continued to fight due to the taser prongs not connecting to the subjects skin. The subject began repeatedly slamming the door into Officer Green. The subject then opened the door and began to punch Officer Green. Green then deployed the taser for the second time, missing the subject. The subject was pepper sprayed by Investigator Hernandez and taken to the ground in custody.
The subject sustained a head injury during the scuffle and ambulance was called to the scene.
The subject was transported to the hospital.
Dumas Police Department Incident Reports were “Masked” (Removed from the report) the homeowner's identity, the subject's identity and information and the Incident Reports of supporting Dumas Police Officers Alan Hernandez, Carl McCree and Raydon Finley.
BURGLARY
Dumas Police Sgt. Greg Freeman was notified by Desha County Sheriff's Office about a possible break-in at the Dunn Mini Storage on Hwy 65 Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at approximately 10:00 pm.
When Sgt. Freeman arrived he found #D16 had been broken into and several items had been taken.
The renter Mr. Robert Stimson arrived and stated that four saddles were missing from a saddle stand located in the storage building. Entry was made by Stimson's lock being removed from the storage building.
Desha County advised suspects have been detained and questioned for this incident
POSSESSING MARIJUANA
Dumas Police Department Sgt. Gregg Freeman observed a 2018 Hyundai Elantra, while patrolling Friday, April 1 at approximately 1:08 am, traveling west on Hwy 165 run the red light at Hwy 165 and Hwy 65.
According to the Dumas Police Department Incident report, Sgt. Freeman conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at the Simmons Bank parking lot. As Freeman was speaking with the driver, identified at 58-year-old Beverly Short of Watson, AR, he could smell the odor of Marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
Freeman asked Short if there were any guns, drugs or alcohol in the vehicle. Short retrieved a small amount of green leafy substance appearing to be marijuana from inside her shirt.
After gaining consent to search the vehicle from Short no other items were found.
Short was then written a citation for Possession of a Controlled Substance and releases.
All evidence was placed in the evidence locker at the Police Department.
INFORMATION REPORT
Dumas Police Department Officer Nathan Donaldson was advised by dispatch Tuesday, April 5, 2022, that a Dumas resident came to the Police Department to report a vehicle accident involving her husband. She stated the accident happened March 31, 2022 on Hwy 65 in front of Sonic.
She informed the dispatcher she did not notify the police because the driver was suspected of being intoxicated. She stated that she talked to the other driver on scene and they exchanged insurance information. The other driver (vehicle 2) agreed to fix the damages done to the other vehicle if it wasn't too expensive.
No further information was given about driver of vehicle 2.
INFORMATION REPORT
Dumas Police Department Officer Nathan Donaldson took a report from Lisa Simmons Wednesday, April 6, 2022 about an accident that took place on March 19, 2022.
Simmons stated that she was hit by a vehicle on the back passenger side. She gave the officer the license plate of vehicle 2.
At the time of the report, Officer Donaldson ran the license plate and it came back to a 2021 Lexus ES with owner information.
Simmons stated that she called the police department and dispatch said due to the Hood Nic shooting no officers were available.
Officer Donaldson told Simmons a report would be made.
INFORMATION REPORT
Dumas Police Department Sgt. Crystal Martin was dispatched to Main Street, Saturday, April 9, 2022, in reference to a possible accident.
Sgt Martin patrolled the area of Main Street and located a vehicle in a ditch. No one was around the vehicle when she arrived.
The vehicles back tire was in the ditch but sustained no damage. Sgt. Martin advised dispatch to call Whaley's Towing Service due to the vehicle being abandoned. Whaley's arrived on scene and took possession of the vehicle.
FORGERY
Dumas Police Department Investigator Alan Hernandez was dispatched to McDonald's Monday, April 11, 2022 at approximately 1:09 pm, regarding counterfeited money.
Upon arrival, Hernandez spoke with Store Manager Billy Barnett. Barnett stated that around 12:50 PM, Jessica Bass ordered a four for four meal ($4.58). The person taking the money advised Bass to pull up to the front, the employee advised her supervisor that the money was fake. The change was given to Bass and she left the scene.
The Manager stated that he pulled up security camera footage and was able to get the suspect's face, who Investigator Hernandez identified as Jessica Bass. The manager also had a picture of the car that Bass was driving.
Hernandez identified the car by license plate number and from previous traffic stops.
The manager was advised that a report would be on file.
