Commercial Burglary at Dumas Family Pharmacy
Dumas Police Officers were dispatched to Dumas Family Pharmacy Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at approximately 7:48 AM regarding a break in. According to a Dumas Police Department report, Officers arrived and noticed the back glass door was shattered. Responding officers called CID.
At approximately 8:12 AM, Dumas Police Officers Allan Hernandez was dispatched to Dumas Family Pharmacy. When he arrived, Lt Jamie Donaldson stated that they were in the process of pulling the surveillance footage.
Officer Hernandez began talking with employees. Mrs. Posey stated she pulled up to open the store when she saw the door shattered and a bike laying on the ground and called the police.
Once the footage was pulled up, officers observed at 3:32 AM, a male wearing a black hoodie with a red spot, Crocs and gray sweat pants was seen pushing a bike from the highway towards the back door.
At 3:34 AM, camera 1 caught a black male wearing a black hoodie with a red marking on the side, gray sweats with the Jordan logo on the lower left leg, and Crocs. The suspect was holding a blunt object in his right hand.
At 3:39;11 AM, the suspect from camera 1 was seen entering the door after the glass shattered.
At 3:39:15 AM the suspect walked towards the counter and place his right hand on the counter.
At 3:39:22 AM the suspect turned around and walked back towards the door.
At 3:39:42 AM the suspect returned and jumped over the counter and made it to the back where all the drugs are kept.
At 3:39:51 the suspect walked to where all the medications are and reached for a bottle. He held the bottle as if he were reading it.
At 3:39:58 AM the suspect then reached and grabbed a second bottle and left the store.
Upon reviewing the footage Lt. Donaldson and Officer Hernandez began to take prints off the counter including a shoe print. The two bottle that were taken were Sucralfate Oral Suspension. A gray Huffy Bike was found outside the door.
Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 5:00 PM a juvenile came to the police department with his father and attorney Marva Davis. Davis sat in on the interview.
The juvenile was informed of his rights.
The juvenile stated that he rode his bike to the Dumas Family Pharmacy the night of July 20, 2021. The suspect stated that he saw a blunt object by the door, picked it up and used it to break the glass door.
The juvenile further stated he went in the pharmacy, jumped over the counter and grabbed two bottles of medicine and left the store. The suspect then went over to east side to “chill” with a girl. From there the juvenile said he walked back home.
The juvenile was charged with Commercial Burglary.
Juvenile Intake Officer James advised to cite the juvenile and return him to his parents. Officer James stated an ankle monitor would be placed on the juvenile until his court date. James stated the court hearing would be by zoom.
Disorderly Conduct; Interference with a Law Enforcement Officer/ Assault on an Officer
Dumas Police Department Sgt. Tonianne Wernicke and Sgt. Crystal Martin were called to 105 Palmetto Dr in reference to a disturbance Tuesday, July 20, 2021.
According to a Dumas Police Department report, upon arrival Wernicke and Martin made contact with Georgia Black. Ms. Black stated her son Anthony Black is off his medications and locked her out of the residence.
Ms. Black stated she was trying to get inside the house to retrieve her medications. As Wernicke and Martin were talking with Ms. Black, Mr. Black was outside yelling “This lady trying to break in”, Mr. Black continued stating “I don't know this lady, she's not my mother.”
Dumas Police Chief Keith Finch, Lt Jamie Donaldson, and Officer's Hernandez and Wayna Green arrived on scene for backup.
Sgt. Martin told Mr. Black to step aside to let his mother inside her residence to retrieve her medications. Mr. Black refused.
Sgt. Wernicke and Sgt. Martin had to physically move Mr. Black aside. Mr. Black grabbed the screen door of the residence, yelling “No, I don't know this lady, she's not my mother and my name is not Anthony its Marvin.
Sgt. Wernicke and Sgt. Martin decided to place Anthony Black under arrest for Disorderly Conduct. Mr. Black refused to put his hands behind his back. With the help of Chief Finch, Officer Hernandez and Officer Green, Mr. Black was eventually placed in handcuffs.
Mr. Black was transported to Dumas Jail.
During the booking process, Anthony Black continued to refuse officer's commands. Officers had to physically dress Mr. Black in the Dumas Jail uniform. Mr. Black had to be carried to the jail because he refused to walk. When officers got to the jail with Mr. Black, he grabbed a trash bin. Officers and an inmate had to carry Anthony Black to C-pod cell. As Mr. Black was being carried, he kicked Sgt. Wernicke in the face. Mr. Black continued to resist while be put in the cell. He grabbed the cell bars so he would not go inside. Officer Hernandez then dispersed the OC spray in Anthony Blacks face. Officers and an inmate were able to get Mr. Black inside the cell.
Mr. Black is also charged with Assault on an Officer.
Terroristic Threatening
According to a Dumas Police Department report, complainant Barbara Hughes came into the Dumas Police Department Tuesday, July 27, 2021 in reference of Terroristic Threatening.
Upon arrival Dumas Police Sgt. Crystal Martin spoke with Ms. Hughes who stated she was driving on Evergreen Street when she notice Rita Lane was walking. Ms. Hughes stated Ms. Lane was walking in the opposite direction towards her vehicle in the same lane.
Ms. Hughes drove around Ms. Lane when Ms. Lane got upset with her and started yelling and cursing at her. Ms. Hughes stated Ms. Lane went inside 55 Evergreen St residence and retrieved a hoe and started yelling “Come on!” in an aggressive way to fight Ms. Hughes with the hoe.
Sgt. Martin advised Ms. Hughes a report will be on file and how to obtain an affidavit.
Criminal Mischief - 1st Degree
Ms. Riquell McCarrell called the Dumas Police Department reporting that someone had broken her window at her residence at 627 W. Choctaw St.
According to a Dumas Police Department Report, when Dumas Police Officer Alex Hargrove arrived he found Ms. McCarrell in her driveway. She stated that Mr. Gayland Reed had come to her residence and she refused to let him in.
At that time, she stated he walked around the back of the house and broke the window.
Officer Hargrove was unable to locate Mr. Reed.
Ms. McCarrell was advised of the affidavit process and that her report would be on file.
Criminal Mischief - 1st Degree
At approximately 1:00 PM Sunday, August 1, 2021 Keoshaidis Madden requested a Dumas Police Officer come to his residence. Dumas Police Department Sgt. Tonianne Wernicke arrived at the residence and spoke with Madden who stated someone had stabbed his tires on his vehicle.
According to a Dumas Police Department Report, both the front and rear tires on the passenger's side were flat. Sgt. Wernicke found a small cut on the front tire, but could not find a mark on the rear tire.
Madden stated he knew a lot of people that would do this but he was not sure which one.
Sgt. Wernicke advised Madded that a report would be on file and also advised him to notify Officers if any other information is discovered.
Harrassment, Criminal Mischief - 1st Degree
Dumas Police Department dispatch advised a caller needed police for kids banging on door trying to fight her kids Monday, August 2, 2021.
According to a Dumas Police Department Report, Sgt. Crystal Martin made contact with Tiffany Jordan. Ms. Jordan stated Larhonda Hewing's kids came over to her house and started kicking both of her doors causing damage to the paint. Ms. Jordan stated the kids also knocked over her kids bikes that were under her carport.
Ms. Jordan further stated Ms. Hewing's kids are trying to fight her kids over some Tiktok video. Ms. Jordan requested officers go over to Ms. Hewing's residence to tell the kids to not come back over.
Officers made contact with Ms. Hewing and her kids at 90 A. Jack Dante. The kids stated they never went in Ms. Jordan's yard. They stated they were on the public road walking down Mistletoe Street when Ms. Jordan's kids came out of the house trying to fight them.
Officers advised all parties to stay away from each other.
Sgt. Martin advised Ms. Jordan a report will be on file and how to obtain an affidavit.
Domestic Battering - 3rd Degree, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct, Criminal Mischief - 2nd Degree and Battery 3rd Degree
Dumas Police Officer Alex Hargrove was dispatched to a possible fight at Carlton Apartments Sunday, July 18, 2021. Once on scene, According to a Dumas Police Department Report, Officer Hargrove was approached in the parking lot by Mr. Dakota Fryar who stated he and his girlfriend had been fighting.
While Officer Hargrove was speaking to Mr. Fryar, Sgt. Greg Freeman and Officer Kristy Freeman approached Carlton Apartments number 143.
As Officer Hargrove was speaking to Mr. Fryar, he noticed his lip was bleeding slightly and he had marks indicating a physical confrontation had happened. When the officer asked Mr. Fryar about it he stated, “yea, she bit me” and lifted his shirt showing bite marks on his stomach. Mr. Fryar also stated, “she does not look so good either.” Officer Hargrove asked Mr. Frayar, what do you mean and he said it had been physical for both of them.
At that time Officer Hargrove placed Mr. Fryar under arrest.
Officer Freeman and Sgt. Freeman had made contact with the girlfriend at that time and were attempting to place Ms. Mckinzie Denise French under arrest. Ms French resisted and continued to resist all the way to Officer Freeman's patrol car. Once she was in the vehicle Ms. French began kicking the passenger side window of the car causing it to break.
Sgt. Freeman opened the door and attempted to calm her down. Ms. French reportedly kicked Sgt, Freeman was in the face. Sgt. Freeman then restrained Ms. French in the back seat of the car.
Officer Wayna Green arrived on scene to assist and transport Mr. Fryar to the jail, while Officer Freeman transported Ms. French.
Theft from a vehicle
Dumas Police Sgt. Crystal Martin received a call from 110 S. May Drive in reference to a stolen wallet Saturday, July 31, 2021 at approximately 3:50 PM.
According to a Dumas Police Department Report, upon arrival, Sgt. Martin made contact with Cierra Lenderman who stated she came home last night from the store and parked her 2016 White Nissan Altima in the driveway. Ms, Lenderman stated she left her gold wallet with a zipper in the back containing $70 dollars in cash, debit card, Walmart card, insurance card and driver's license in the driver's side door pocket.
Ms. Lenderman stated she and her husband were going to go to the store. When she went to the car to grab her wallet, it was missing. She stated she went to talk with her neighbor who had a security camera pointing towards her car and he was looking at footage.
Sgt. Martin went to talk with the neighbor and her husband. The footage revealed that around 3:02 AM, Ms. Lenderman's vehicle door opened up causing the interior lights to come on. It was too dark for camera to pick up anyone coming to the vehicle and leaving the scene.
Sgt. Martin advised Ms. Lenderman a report will be on file. Ms. Lenderman stated she called the companies to suspend her cards except for one. She stated that if the company notifies her of any usage of the card, she will let the officer know.
Disorderly Conduct
Dumas Police Sgt. Tonianne Wernicke was dispatched to Connect Bank Thursday, July 29, 2021.
According to a Dumas Police Department report, Ernestine Buchanan stated Bobbie Huskey was in the bank causing a scene. Buchanan stated Huskey has been threatening her and her sister and cussed them out.
The bank teller behind the desk stated Huskey came to the bank and accused someone of taking his money. She then stated he cussed Buchanan and he was then asked to leave but he refused.
Sgt, Wernicke told Huskey to speak with her outside.
Huskey stated a convict from Phoenix, Arizona had hacked into his bank account and changed his social security number and changed the figures. He said it was a man named “Bulldog” and the man had all of Huskey's money.
Huskey then walked across Highway 65 in heavy traffic almost causing vehicles to hit him.
Huckey was charged with Disorderly Conduct and was transported to Dumas Police Department.
Connect Bank stated they did not want Huskey to come back. Huskey was notified that he was criminally trespassed from the Connect Bank and he would be arrested if he returns.
Kidnapping, Kidnapping – False Imprisonment, Aggravated Assault on a Family Member or Household Member, 3 counts Interference with a Law Enforcement, Interference with Emergency Communications - 2nd Degree, Interference with Custody, Endangering Welfare of Minor - 2nd Degree
Dumas Dispatcher Magan Armstrong advised Sgt. Crystal Martin that a person was in the Dumas Police Department lobby to talk with an officer Saturday, July 31, 2021 at approximately 1:00 PM.
Sgt. Martin spoke with Nancy Wells. Ms. Wells stated her grandson was visiting his dad, Daniel Williams. She stated her grandson called her phone upset saying his dad was trying to take his phone, screaming for help and ready to go home, then the phone went dead.
Ms. Wells stated she called the grandson's phone back multiple times and go no response. She requested officers do a welfare check and if her grandson was ready to come home, then bring him to the station so she can take him home.
Sgt. Martin notified her partner on duty, Officer Ales Hargrove of the situation.
According to a Dumas Police Department report, Sgt. Martin went to the dad's residence and as she was arriving, she observed a black Dodge Avenger pulling into the driveway and Marquise Washington got out of the vehicle stating he just received a call from Daniel Williams phone. Mr. Washington stated when he answered he heard a child screaming for help like he was dying.
Mr. Washington stated the call scared him, and he went to check on them.
Mr. Washington went around the house knocking on all doors and windows but there was no response.
Officer Hargrove arrived on scene. Both Hargrove and Sgt. Martin went to the side metal door with a sheet hanging up and announced themselves. They commanded Mr. Williams to come to the door or send out the son.
The officers received no response from Mr. Williams. A black dog stuck its nose out barking at the officers aggressively.
Once again, the officer ordered Mr. Williams to come to the door or send out the son. They again received no response from Mr. Williams.
Officer Hargrove went to the front door where the back bedroom was located. The officer stated he heard Mr. Williams in the bedroom telling the son, to be quiet and trying to get the dog to stop barking.
Officers continued to to command Mr. Williams to come out of the house or send his son out, but he refused.
Sgt. Martin yelled for the juvenile to say something or ask for help so they could rescue him but Mr. Williams yelled out “No!” and was preventing his son from saying anything.
Sgt. Martin advised dispatch to contact the property owners. The owners gave permission for law enforcement to enter the residence. Through the use of her police unit's PA system, Sgt. Martin commanded Mr. Williams to come out of the house with his hands up multiple times.
Officer Hargrove and CID Hernandez began to make entry in the front door. Officers began to search the house for Mr. Williams and his son. Officers began telling the son to come to us for safety and Mr. Williams grabbed his son, bear hugging his son tightly, using his arms and legs. Officers commanded Mr. Williams to let go of his son multiple times but he refused. Mr. Williams hanging on to his son, using him as a shield.
Mr. Williams was commanded to let the son go or he would be tased, however he continued to refuse. Mr. Williams pulled his son onto the bed. Sgt. Martin went to grab Mr. Williams ankle when he kicked her in the chest yelling “Break my foot” and continued using his son as a shield, jerking his son around in a bear hug yelling “No, they going to kill us!” CID Hernandez attempted to pull the son out of Mr. Williams arm, but Mr. Williams continued jerking his son around in a tight bear hug.
CID Hernandez deployed his taser making contact with Mr. Williams. Officer tried to separate the son from Mr. Williams arms but were unable to.
During the commotion, the taser prongs became dislodged, rendering it ineffective.
The juvenile was crying, telling his dad multiple times, “Please let me go, Let me go dad.” Officer were finally able to pull the juvenile out of Mr. Williams bear hug. Sgt. Martin told the son to run to her patrol unit for safety.
Officers commanded Mr. Williams to put his hands behind his back. Mr. Williams refused. Officers began to take Mr. Williams into custody. He continued to resist. Sgt. Martin told CID Hernandez to deploy the OC spray. Officer Hargraves was able to get one handcuff on Mr. Williams but not the other. Hargraves called for more backup.
Game and Fish Officer Johnathan Byrd and Dumas Police Chief Keith Finch arrived and Mr. Williams was eventually taken into custody.
Mr. Williams was checked out by EMS who were standing by at the scene. EMS also checked out the juvenile.
Mr. Williams was transported to Dumas Jail where he was booked in.
The juvenile was transported to Dumas PD where he was reunited with his grandmother.
CID Hernandez received bruises on both of his forearms. Officer Hargrove and Sgt. Martin sustained no visible injures.
Residential Burglary
Dumas Police Sgt. Greg Freeman was dispatched Monday, August 9, 2021 at approximately 10:55 PM, to 304 South Pecan in reference to a burglary.
When Sgt, Freeman arrived he made contact with Ethel Miles. Miles advised that someone broke into her residence and took her grandson's PlayStation 4 from his room.
A security video showed a black man identified as Adrian Johnson enter through the front door and enter the bedroom and disconnected the PlayStation and departed the residence.
Johnson was located at 308 South Pecan and taken into custody and transported to Dumas Police Department.
This Case was transferred to the CID Officer Alan Hernandez at that time.
Terroristic Act, Shoots at or Projects an object that causes property damage
Natasha Smith reported to Dumas Police Department that she had just been shot at and she was now parked at Cash's Travel Plaza Sunday, August 8, 2021 at approximately 3:00 PM.
Smith stated she had just drove by the snow cone stand at Farmer and Highway 65 when a burgundy Buick with paper tags drove past her. Smith stated the vehicle kept going towards Gould. She pulled into Cash's Travel Plaza where there were several people out. Smith's vehicle, a 2013 red Toyota Corolla had a bullet hole in the driver's widow which was shattered and the passenger side rear window which was also shattered. There were two holes in the rear of the car on the driver's side and one through the truck.
Smith stated she was not physically harmed and she refused medical attention.
Dispatch notified Lincoln County about the suspect vehicle. Lincoln County Deputy Johnathan Martin mad contact with a burgundy Buick Verano with paper tags at the park in Gould.
The owner was Jessica Micole Bass. A 9mm pistol was found in the Buick with 9 bullets in the clip and one in the chamber. Bass was taken into custody for investigation with Victoria Burks who was in the vehicle in Gould. Burks was taken to Dumas PD to be interviewed as well.
Smith stated Bass has some problems with her son, but did not know what the issue was.
CID Eric Armstrong was notified of the incident. Armstrong collected the bullet fragments from the vehicle as well as the suspect gun that Deputy Martin confiscated from Bass and the ammo in the gun.
All evidence is being held at Dumas PD. This incident is currently under investigation.
Furnishing Prohibited Articles
During a Terroristic Act investigation, Investigator Eric Armstrong picked up Jessica Bass and brought her to the Dumas Jail Sunday, August 8, 2021 at approximately 8:00 PM.
As investigator Armstrong concluded his investigation for the day, Ms. Bass was booked into the Dumas Jail.
Sgt. Tonianne Wernicke also told Ms. Bass to put all of her property into the property bin when she was done dressing. Ms. Bass took approximately fifteen minutes in the bathroom and gave Sgt. Wernicke her property bin. Investigator Armstrong escorted Ms. Bass to her jail cell.
Approximately two hours later, Sgt. Crystal Martin asked Sgt. Wernicke did Ms. Bass actually put her cell phone in the property bin. Sgt. Wernicke stated she did not remember seeing her phone in the bin.
Sgt. Martin contacted Dumas Police Officer Kristy Freeman by phone asking her to go into intake property room to locate Ms. Bass cell phone. Officer Freeman could not locate the phone so she went to the jail.
Officer Freeman located Ms. Bass cell phone in her possession in her jail cell. Officer Freeman took photos of Ms. Bass cell phone and seized the property. The cell phone was entered into the Dumas Evidence Locker and Ms. Bass was charged with Prohibited/Furnishing Articles.
Criminal Mischief - 1st Degree
Angela Zuniga stated that someone threw a water meter cover through her back window of her 2014 Chevy Malibu, also causing damage to the trunk' in a Dumas Police report taken by Lt. Jamie Donaldson Monday, August 9, 2021.
A witness on Evergreen stated she saw two black females get out of a small red car and approach the vehicle and throw an object, then get back into the vehicle and left.
There are no known suspects at this time.
Domestic Battering - 3rd Degree
Thursday, August 5, 2021 at approximately 2:00 PM, Ladayia Bronson was at the end of Palmetto Street. She stated she had just got “jumped” on by a female named Jeanette Kimble and another female named Cathy Johnson. Bronson stated she dated Kimble and Kimble disappeared trying to talk to another female (Johnson).
Bronson stated she had been staying with Kimble's sister. She stated on his day, Kimble and Johnson were inside the house and they jumped on her while she was alone. Bronson stated Kimble had been staying on Wolff St and Johnson stayed in Monticello.
Dumas Police Sgt, Tonianne Wernicke was unable to get any more information on the suspects.
Sgt. Wernicke advised Bronson on how to obtain a Protective Order as well as an Affidavit.
Johnson was unable to be located at the time of this report.
Bronson was given the Domestic Violence Lethality Screen per protocol.
