DUMAS, AR (August 10, 2022) – Linda K. Weatherford announces her candidacy for the
position of Alderman for the City of Dumas, Ward 2, Position 2.
Her personal statement regarding the election follows:
Thirty-six years ago, I chose Dumas. In August 1986, I moved to Dumas to take a position as
Spanish teacher with the Dumas Schools. My plans were to get three years of experience and
then travel the world in foreign service. It didn’t take very long at all to know that Dumas was
home and lodged solidly in my heart.
This community has taught me so many things: how to serve, to cherish diversity, to learn from
the wisest of the wise, to have fun with life, and to strive for the best so everyone involved will
succeed. The people here helped us raise and nurture our family, providing a solid foundation
of a hometown to be proud of. Dumas accepted me with all of my faults and issues and helped
me learn to be and do better – and I am forever grateful.
This August, I choose Dumas again. I am seeking a position on the Dumas City Council for
Ward 2, Position 2. Dumas has its faults and its issues. We must learn to be and do better. We
need to build upon our strengths and use them to revitalize our town. We need to treat each
other with the utmost respect. We need to care for our weaknesses as we would for an ill family
member–with attention and healing hands.
I ask that you consider voting for me for Alderman, Ward 2, Position 2 for the city of Dumas.
Please join me in choosing Dumas.
