Kicking off 1995 with a session nearly two hours long, the Dumas City Council voted Tuesday to chip ina one-time payment of $2,500 for an additional 10th Judicial District prosecutor and to participate in a grant application for a juvenile detention facility to serve the 10th District’s five counties.
Chief Deputy prosecutor John Snyder spoke hon behalf of Prosecutor Joe Wray to drum up support on for the additional prosecutor’s position.
The name will remain the same, but almost everything else about Valley Implement Co. in McGehee is in the process of changing under new ownership.
On December 1, the John Deere company formally approved the sale of Valley Implement to Ken Shea and Bill Shea of Dumas. The Sheas are fourth-generation members of families with deep ties to agriculture and service related businesses in both Dumas and McGehee.
A community-wide program honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. has been scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday January 16, at the West Dumas Community Life Center.
State Senator Jean Edwards of Sherrill will be the guest speaker.
The Dumas Junior Lady Kats make it six in a row Monday with 37-16 rout of White Hall at the DHS Gym, pushing their Southeastern Conference mark to 4-0.
Dumas had whipped Jack Robey North here lat Thursday, 39-19.
The Dumas Ladykats bounced back Tuesday from a weak effort at Little Rock Mills in their league opener last Friday to hold off visiting Monticello at the DHS Gym, 41-40, and even their AAA-Southeast mark 1-1.
Now 3-5 overall, the ‘Kats face a formidable task on the road Friday night against defending champion Sheridan before returning home to entertain White Hall on Tuesday.
Adam Patton put on a three-point show Monday as the Dumas Junior Bobcats whipped White Hall, 41-27 at the DHS Gym.
The Jr. ‘Cats had event their Southeastern Conference mark, at 3-5 witha 45-43 decision over Jack Robey North on Thursday, also at home.
Little Rock Mills got Dumas off to a bad start in AAA-Southeast play last Friday, rallying for a 45-44 win, but the ‘Cats may have surprised even themselves with Tuesday’s 58-51 handling of Monticello.
Missing from Dumas lineup in both games was senior Steve Mitchell, who badly injured his ankle in practice last Thursday.
