The Majestic Pediatric and Adolescent Urgent Care clinic held its ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening Thursday afternoon August 5, 2021.
Dr. Nicole Garth, Doctor of Nursing Practice and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, opened her urgent care clinic at 103 West Waterman Street, next Meador Drug Store. The Dumas Chamber of Commerce, City of Dumas and the community came out to support the opening of the clinic. The Clinic officially opened Monday morning. She said many of the parents in attendance said they were thankful that she was opening the clinic and to have a doctor that specializes in children.
Over 150 people attended the event. Garth also held the Majestic Creations', her non profit organization, annual Back to School event after the ribbon cutting ceremony. They served refreshments, handed out backpacks and school supplies, coloring and activity books, cash prize giveaways and Broadway Joe of Power 92 promoted the event on the radio station.
Garth's clinic will provide medical care for children ages from birth to 21 years old. The clinic is an urgent care clinic and to be an extension to the patient's physicians office. The clinic will stay open until 6 p.m and every third Saturday to provide any care needed for a child if they cannot see their regular doctor. Parents and guardians will need to provide an insurance card, Social Security Card and an ID from the parent. Appointments are not required to use the clinic as they are not the patient's regular doctor, but can be made if the parent wants to make one.
The clinic offers immunizations, infant and toddler care and adolescent care. Their services include allergic reactions, Asthma Attacks and Breathing treatments, pain relief, rashes and hives, wound care and stitches, fever management and education, cold, flu and fevers, vomiting and stomach pain, X-Ray Examinations in process, sore throat, Urinary Discomfort, STI screening and onsite treatment, management of mild to moderate dehydration, sports physicals, medications, Pregnancy tests, shots for pregnancy prevention. and coming soon TeleMedicine Appointments.
The mission of the clinic is to improve the lives of Southeast Arkansas and to provide affordable urgent care to children and adolescents in Desha County and surrounding counties. Their goals are to reduce the usage of emergency room facilities for non-emergency care; reduce the incidence of serious medical problems that result from delay in seeking medical care; to make acute care more accessible for families with limited ability to pay and limited transportation access; and to use preventative health education to improve health habits and reduce the incidence of serious medical conditions.
Garth purchased the former doctor's office in February 2021. With the help from her brothers began renovating the clinic in the summer. Her vision for the clinic is for it to be a caring and inviting place for children and parents. The lobby features a television and tablets for young patients to use and features artwork like a positivity tree with a variety of positive phrases. She decorated the clinic's exam rooms with themes from Dr. Suess, Baby Shark, Mario Brothers and polka dots to provide a child -friendly environment for her patients and to provide them a positive experience when they go to the doctor.
Garth plans to expand the clinic in the future to provide examination spaces for small children and adolescents.
“My goal coming back here is to help the kids and my community and to do that we are going to have to grow. We are going to make sure we are going to provide what our kids need and our community needs,” She said.
