Costumes ready and enthusiasm at a peak, Dumas citizens tomorrow begin the three-day celebration of the 75 years of incorporation of the City of Dumas.
The dates for the celebration, July 26 through 28, mark the same weekend that the Golden Jubilee was held here in 1954.
An open house will be held at the new Southeast Arkansas Medical Center from 3-5 Sunday. The 12,000 square foot structure is located on Highway 65 South.
Angela Frye, 12, of Dumas was voted by her fellow campers to be the outstanding Camper of Happy Acres Unit during July 14-19 session at the Kiwanis Camp Taloha Girls Scout Camp, which is located near Pine Bluff.
She will receive a full one week campership of her choice of the 1980 camping session at Camp Taloha.
The new $300,000 Tourist Rest Area at the junction of the U.S. Highways 65 and 165 between Dermott and McGehee will be officially opened and named in honor of State Senator John F. Gibson of Dermott with a dedication program Thursday morning at 11 o’clock.
A dedication address, officially naming the facility for Senator Gibson, will be given by Chicot County Judge James R. Burchfield of Lake Village.
Beginning at the end of 1979, the city of Watson will receive turnback funds from the county for fines assessed in Dumas Municipal Court for offenses occurring in Watson, the Desha County Quorum Court has ruled.
Dumas School Board, acting Thursday in a makeup session for June’s missed meeting, approved a budget of $2,853,532 for 1979-80 and agreed to seven of nine proposals presented to the board by the Dumas Teachers Committee.
Final plans for the Southeast Arkansas Regional Junior Tennis Tournament to be played Aug. 9-11in Monticello have been announced.
The three-day meet will include some 20 divisions for boys and girls, ages 10 through 18, and will be cosponsored by the Monticello Tennis Association and the Advanced Printing Company.
The Walter Hall Post 84 American Legion baseball team will enter the Southeast Area Tournament at Pine Bluff Friday, meeting Monticello in a 5:30 p.m. contest.
Dumas, if a winner against Monticello, meets Stuttgart Saturday at 5:30 , but faces Warren at 3 p.m. Sunday if a loser in the opener.
