Speaking to a milling crowd of 400-500 persons here Wednesday afternoon, October 26, Winthrop Rockefeller said that he favored an Arkansas Agricultural Development Corporation.
The Republican Candidate for governor visited Dumas about the afternoon during a tour of Southeast Arkansas which began in Crossett during the mozing and cover McGehee, Dermott, and Monticello. He ended the day with a hot dog supper at Lake Village.
Amid a final flurry of campaign blasts, Arkansas candidates head into the home stretch on races which culminate with the general election Tuesday, November 8.
Hottest race of the campaign is being waged by the gubernatorial candidate, Jim Johnson, Democratic nominee, and Winthrop Rockefeller, Republican nominee.
Legislative reforms were advocated by John F. “Mutt” Gibson, Democratic candidate for the 22nd State Senatorial District seat here last night.
Addressing the Dumas Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Gibson, a Dermott attorney, suggest that maybe too much legislation is proposed and ot of enough of it studied and thought out.
Dumas Bobcat tangle with the Monticello Hillbillies at 7:30 p.m. Friday on the Monticello field.
Since McGehee has already acquired the District 8A title with a 9-0 record to date, Dumas’ maine hopes are to solidify their second place hold on the conference with a victory over Monticello.
Glynn Puryear of Dumas was elected president of the Arkansas Home Builders Association at the convention in Hot Springs Friday.
Mr. Puryear is associated with his father O.L. Puryear, and brothers Lynn and William, in the lumber and hardware business here.
Dumas High School Marching Band received a Division II rating in the Arkansas A&M Invitational Marching Contest at College Heights Saturday.
The D.H.S. Senior Band was entered into competition with 12 other bands of its class from throughout Arkansas, including six from 8A South Conference. In all, there were 25 bands participating.
Dumas was to host the 1966 Boy Scout Fall Rally Saturday at Memorial Park.
Activities of the Rally were Scoutcraft skills and Physical Fitness Skills. Communities were represented at Dumas were Lake Village and Dumas.
The hospital directors of the Dumas and McGehee County hospitals have gone on record approving the passing of the one-mill operation and maintenance tax for the hospitals.
At the meeting held here the night of October 26, the committee from each hospital board agreed to boost the passage of the levy. The group approved a plan whereby Quorum Court would be petitioned to split the tax income 50-50 between the Dumas and McGehee units-should voters approve the levy.
A revived Bobcat offense swamped visiting Clarendon Lions 25-12 Friday night. the game was not as close as the score might indicate as the Bobcats dominated all phases of the bruising and rough game.
This was the second game in a row in which the Bobcats have scored 20 points or more. This time, they took command of the game in the first period and carried the battle to the highly-regarded visitors.
The Dumas Bobkittens got back into the winning column by destroying Hamburg 20-6 here Thursday night.
Playing their best game of the season, the ‘Kittens completely dominated the game.
