Hyder L. Johnson, 89, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. '
Born August 28, 1936, in Tillar, he lived a life deeply rooted in faith and service. He was a devoted member of Loggy Bayou M.B. Church and later New St. Hurricane Baptist Church. Hyder graduated from Wolf Project High School, earned degrees from A.M.&N. College (UAPB) and Texas Southern University, and honorably served in the U.S. Army as a bacteriologist.
He dedicated 33 years to education as a teacher, principal, and longtime Dumas Public Schools science instructor and bus driver. Active in civic and community organizations, he also operated a rental business.
Hyder is survived by his wife, Deborah Branch Johnson; children Dexter, Andre, and Stephaney; five grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; and siblings Lorraine (Rev. Jesse) Radford, Herschell (Paula) Johnson, and Zealander Jennings. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaiah and Connie Johnson, and brothers Fred Jones, Albert Johnson, and Isaiah Johnson Jr.
