The Dumas Special School District Board of Education accepted nine resignations, including the resignation of District Superintendent Kelvin Gragg at their monthly meeting held Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at the Administration Office.
The meeting was called to order at 6 pm by Board President Alan Minor. Roll call verified all board members were present, including: Alan Minor, Ronald Neal, Nelson Crow, Jared McDonald and Heath Moncrief. Administration staff present included: Kelvin Gragg and Janice Stennis.
During the meeting a motion was made by Health Moncrief to accept the resignation of current Superintendent Kelvin Gragg and appoint Dr. Camille Sterrett as Interim Superintendent, effective June 1, 2022 until the position is filled. The motion was seconded by Ronald Neal and carried unanimously.

The Board went into executive session at approximately 6:07 pm. The meeting reconvened at approximately 6:58 pm with no action taken.

Nelson Crow made a motion to accept the administration recommendations, Heath Moncrief seconded, and the motion carried unanimously
Approval of AAMSCO Grant - Administration recommended approval to for DSD to participate in the AAMSCO Security Grant that would allow the district to purchase advanced security equipment for all locations. The grant will be $499,923.14 with the district being responsible for 25 percent of the total cost. Heath Moncrief made a motion to approve the grant participation, Nelson Crow seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Approval of HVAC Replacement – Reed & Jr. High – Administration recommended approval to replace the HAVAC systems at Reed Elementary and Dumas Middle School. The projects will cost $1,477,470.00 and ARP ESSER will be the funding source. Heath Moncrief made a motion to approve the HVAC projects, Nelson Crow seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The Board also unanimously passed motions to approve:
Contract between Central Arkansas Disability Rehabilitation Services MOU;
Adding a Wellness class to the High School's course catalog;
Approval of Early Release Wednesdays for Secondary Schools to hold Professional Learning Communities (PLC's);
Approved proposal from the Classified Personnel Policy Committee to place all classified employees on a step salary schedule;
Approved replacing the carpet in rooms 112-115, and room 119 and in the Dean of Students office with vinyl composition tile, due to age and deterioration.
Heath Moncrief made a motion to approve the credit card statements as presented and motion carried unanimously.
The next regularly scheduled board meeting will be June 28, 2022 at 6 pm.
