Arkansas Historic Preservation and Main Street Dumas Board of Directors invites everyone to attend A Public meeting to be held at the Dumas Area Art Center on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 4 pm.
The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program (AHPP) will be conducting a public meeting to discuss the State Preservation Plan. The agency is tasked with reviewing the “PLANNING FOR PRESERVATION The Arkansas Historic Preservation Plan 2018-2022” and making modifications to it every five years and the current plan can be viewed at https://bit.ly/3id07YI. The AHPP also has a survey available for Public input in both English and Spanish at https://bit.ly/3cflW6b. Input from the public is valuable in creating goals and plans for 2022-2025.
Main Street Dumas is designated as a historic district with 13 National registered locations. The locations include the Dumas Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Dumas, Gill Furniture/Appliance, Buck's Liquor Store, The Cuttin' Corner, Dumas Area Art Center, Billy Free Park, Flowers, Gifts by William and several vacant buildings. The Dumas Downtown commissioners include Mabel Dalton, Flora Simon, Melissa Curtis, Don Livingston and Jonathan Byrd.
“They are going to give us a lot of information and also answer any questions we may have about the historic district. I am hoping we can get some activities started again and do some more improvements to our downtown area,” Owen said.
