With the Omicron variant of the coronavirus on the rise, many schools closed at the end of last week in attempt to decrease the spread of the disease. Boys & Girls Club of McGehee did not host children on campus at the end of the week but did provide numerous virtual program opportunities for children.
Children received activity packets, and the Club gave out to-go meals as the packets were passed out. Children were provided with virtual story-telling, art lessons, and physical exercise.
The Club posted many videos on Facebook with the help of staff members in order to offer the best possible program experience to children while at home.
The Club’s Triple Play program was offered to students by posting a workout video to get children moving, and children were able to build tinfoil sculptures and make self portraits by watching video tutorials.
Boys & Girls Club of McGehee Teen Center gave older students virtual opportunities as well. In addition to the to-go meals and activity packets, they were given opportunities to post videos, participate in an at-home scavenger hunt, and think about their goals and future plans.
Although students were not able to meet together as they normally would, the Club adapted very well in order to give students an enjoyable time during their few days at home.
