Boys & Girls Club of McGehee held its second annual Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Coat Giveaway on January 17 for children and teenagers in the community. Over 100 coats were given, and over 50 families were served as a result of this event. This year, the Club decided to feature a mobile coat display that was transported by a trailer. In partnership with Desha County Extension Office, the coat display was successfully taken to three different locations around the city.
In addition to this service effort, Boys & Girls Club of McGehee has made new steps academically as well. A team of eight girls started their journey in the Club’s Technovation Girls program. The program focuses on growing girls’ skills in STEM projects. The children will work together on an engineering project that challenges them to create a project that will better their community, and the project will then be entered into a national competition.
