Members of the Dumas Community held a candlelight vigil of the late Charles Lawrence Verser Friday December 3, 2021.
Verser born October 23, 1963 passed away November 29, 2021. He was born and raised in Dumas. The memorial service was held at 218 Elwood Street in Dumas. The service included Gospel music and Dumas preachers such as Pastor Johnny Smith and Pastor P.C. Holley. Dumas Mayor Flora Simon, Dumas Police Department and Dumas citizens attended the event. The funeral service for Verser has not been announced as of Monday.
“It was a lovely Service. If anyone has trouble burying a loved one contact me and I will do all I can to help you raise money for anyone in Dumas,” Herbert Mingo, of Dumas said. “We want to thank everyone who showed up last night and we plan on doing this again. Anything we can do to help, we are here to help.”
Mingo thanked community members who donated money for the burial and that the community is welcome to come out and support Dumas. This is his second memorial with the first candlelight vigil for Viola Davis, of Mitchellville.
